Frank - I’m impressed [bow] That is truly awsome work in the cowel flaps. Won’t catch me doing that - yet [(-D]
Sean, Mike - great work also. Luv the progress you’re making. Keep on it. [tup]

Frank & Mike, you both are doing super jobs! The F86 is taking all my time at the bench, but hope to get SOMETHING done on mine real soon. I got a ton of work to do. Its great to see so many posts in one day!!..Harv
Thanks fellas! Maybe in a day or two I’ll attempt the other one. [8-]
Harv - you need to get into the (bad) habbit I have - Multiple Builds at once ! I can stay at the bench all day - one project can have cement curing, another has putty curing, something is almost always in the paint booth drying. Also hepls prevent boredom or dislike on a certain model ([:-^]) It also helps when I get stalled - like out of a certain color of paint. Hobby shop is 180 miles roundtrip form my little shack up here on the Northern Border.
Sean, thanks for the encouragement!! I need a swift kick in the pants. Wow, those planes are tiny!!..Harv
Harv there is life out there other then 1/32 ! The only scale I dont care for in Aircraft is 1/144 [X-)] [xx(]. And I have been thinning out the 1/32 due to they are real~estate and paint hogs. I believe the Corsair in the box is an old Airfix or Matchbox “Bagged” kit. I plan on displaying all three scales (1/72, 1/48,/1/32) next to each other someday.
Sean, well if you ever run out of room or paint, and cant finnish the 1/32 kits, you know were to send them As far as other scales…I`m too blind to even think about them!!..Harv
Yes, I`m multi tasking…Harv
Geeze Harv you need to muck that bench off or build a bigger one. [(-D] I would lean towards the “Bigger one” idea since you build 1/32… May I suggest a Door over two saw~horses… What is that monster your phone is pinned under ?
OH, that monster. Its a Trump F105D that is been around for about ayear and a half. Got it painted about 3 months ago, and have been planing on AB the future on. But a certain corsair and saber have pushed it aside…Harv
No sean I haven’t finished my corsair yet.[sigh] It’s slowly getting stuff done to it, not bad things don’t fret, a lil sanding here a fitment there etc.
Great work guys all around!!![tup]
I’m throwing my hat into the ring. Already sent PM to Gigatron.
Revell 1/48 Corsair F4U-4:
Already have the fuselage together:
And just finished up the wings:
I loved the idea of being able to fold the wings up, which is why I picked the kit.
The gear being retractable was unexpected. I’m used to having the option of gear up or down, and I usually pick down (my wife isn’t to keen on the idea of suspending them from the ceiling in the bedroom). However, you can’t actual retract the gear on this one. Sure, the gear doors open and close, and the landing strut folds and pivots. But if the wheel is attached, it won’t fit in the gear bay [:(!]. I can see myself now, showing it to people “See how cool this is, the gear fold up, only I have to pry off the wheels and put them in my pocket before hand.”
Has anybody else done this kit and scratched their head about it?
Hi padakr – interesting build! Are these Hasegawa’s molds released by Revell? Do I see recessed or raised panel lines??? Retractable gear is a most unusual feature in a kit, especially post-the 1970s.
It looks like you’ve painted the gear bay doors interior green on their inner sides, and the gear struts white. This is an interesting point, trying to match the aircraft type to the date of usage to determine what the regulations were for detail colors.
My (color) -1D data for the 100 Hours War does not show any of the aircraft with gear down, so I’m going to have to wing it. I’ve still not decided if the doors are going to be the underside color or green.
Cheers,
Mike/TB379
Okay, I’m done. First up is the image that gave me my inspiration. It a print by artist John Stanley. don’t know him but found this image with good ole google.
Info on this aircraft.
I did clip the wings but my markings are only as accurate as I could find. The serial number is not the correct number for this plane as this is only my representation of the planes detailed above. Thanks for looking.
View to see clipped wings.
Now THAT is a stunning build! Love the FAA Corsairs. What colors did you use on this one? You ought to be mighty proud of that one. [bow]
Hi Mike,
Don’t know about the lineage of the model, however the panel lines are all raised if that helps. Copyright on the instruction sheet says 2007.
The painting directions called for the struts to be silver, but I used aluminum instead. However, the photos on the box have the struts and wheels as white. I usually try to follow the painting guide provided, with a few deviations to make things easier on myself (for example, medium green instead of the zinc chromate called for). It won’t pass muster for accuracy, but as long as I don’t go to far, I can live with myself.
I would expect the interior of the gear doors wouldn’t be the underside color for your build. Not that I have any information, I just think that the people painting the outside of the aircraft for a particular squadron or area of operations wouldn’t go to the trouble of painting the inside.
Thanks Frank, I really enjoyed this one. The colors ar MM RAF Dark Sea Grey with RAF Dark Slate grey over RAF Sky enamels. I usually stick to acrylics but they didn’t have these two. Brush painted, I can’t airbrush to save my life.
You painted that with a brush?
Unreal! I am even more impressed. Well executed my friend. [^]
Very Nice kg I like the version also, Nice color combos. Who made the kit and what scale ? I wouild have never guessed you brush painted it. [tup][tup]
A BRUSH?? wow…I really like what you did. Excelent work!! .I agree with all…Harv
