the night shift is killing me

I haven’t worked on my spit for about a week now. This night shift has totally fouled up my circadian rhythm; I come home from work at 6AM and sleep until 4pm, get up, eat bad-for-me junk food and go to work. I am jonesing for some great model pix…anyone got anything they would like to post so I can drool over them at about 2am?

hahaha night shift also makes me act punchy and inebriated

matthew i can fully understand that. now that i have gotten used to being awake during the day i dont think the nights would be the same.

That is a real bummer Matt. I know how feel though, I used to work the graveyard shift at 7 - 11. Lots of coffee. It took a while to get back to normal when I left. Good Luck.
Cheers,
Eric

I work alternate weeks of lates (start at noon) & of earlies. Tomorrow I have to be
up at 3.45am to get breakfast & get to work for 5.00. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it does mean I get up early at weekends, best time to go on line here to check out FSM.
Try cutting out the coffee & junk food, I’ve found it does make a difference.

I too, often have to work 12-hour night shifts sometimes 10-15 days non-stop, but only during rotations here at the CMTC. I’m back on normal 8-hour days now but will go back to nights for rotations in May and June. Normally takes me 4-5 days to get back into a normal rhythm.

Depends on what your job really is, but you could make the best of it. How?

Take some modelling equipment with you to work. If it’s a night shift in hospital; remember that CA on some modelling parts counts as an emergency situation as well. Any cardiac arrests should wait.
Or guarding some inmates in prison: come on people, go to sleep, no messing this night: I’m finishing the rigging on my Fokker Dr.1. (how original), so I won’t be able to keep an eye on the monitors. Behave!

Should make time pass quickly…

Sorry to hear about your predicament. Sorry I can’t give you any advice on it. But, in the above quote, you mention “jonesing”. That’s the second time this week I’ve heard this word (the other time was on TV), and I have no idea what it means. Whatever happened to the English language that I used to know and could hardly speak?[:)][:)][:)]

Mattew:

I know exactly what your going through… I have been working the 7p-7a shift for awhile now. It can mess with your system at first. Especially the first day or two. While you may not be able to assemble at the hospital. I usually on the first day off sleep til about noon or so then get up.
Funny thing about night shift is sometimes on your days off. You can get up about 3or 4 in the morning. That I have found is the best time for building. Everything is quiet, noone coming in and distracting you, and it is just you and the styrene. Hang in there your Adrenal Glands will adjust eventually. The secret is on your days off try to keep your night shift schedule. Sleep during the day and stay up at night. Besides the night life around Wintston- Salem and Durham can have some interesting characters that are out and about.

“jonesing” is a highly technical term that refers to a situation in which someone has a craving for an object or person, i.e. “I’ve got a love jones for angelina jolie.” See urbandictionary.com. I think I’ve proved night shift makes my act inebriated.

I’ve been lucky. I onlyspent 6 months out of 35 years on nights. I hated it and was ready to quit when I was able to get away. If you are serious about wanting something to look at, go through my albums. Lots of airshow, museum, glider flight and model pictures. Some you can only get to through the ‘wayne baker album’.
