The Mummy

I’ve always loved the movie monsters, so when I saw this Revell kit of The Mummy, I had to have it. I built a few of the Aurora monster kits when I was a kid, but not this one.

The book in the picture is one I bought in fourth grade at the book fair. I read that thing over and over! I have very few books from my college years, but I’ll never get rid of this one.

The kit goes together very easily, but the seams were challenging. I beveled the seams before glueing then filled and reconstructed the wrappings with apoxie sculpt. Primed with Tamiya white, then “antiqued” the whole thing with a watered down wash of acrylic burnt umber.

For the mummy, I added spots of blue, green, and red with watercolor pencils to give a very subtle variation, then misted it with tamiya IJN green. Washes with brown and grays pulled it all together. An overall wash with brown and black oil, then highlights with light gray.

The base got the same watercolor pencil treatment with blues, reds, and greens, then finished with craft and model acrylics. Gloss coat, oil paint wash, then a satin coat of clear. Parts where the stone is broken got a matte coat. Some fine sifted sand finished it off.

All in all, a fun project, a nice break from aircraft, and trip down nostalgia lane!

Very nice job, I love it.

Beautiful job

I’m with Steve and Nick. That’s really neat! Nicely done. [Y]

Thank you!

You did a spectacular job on old Karis (I think this one was)! And the base looks great too! Great job all around!!!

EXELLENT !!!

I can “almost” smell the tomb he crawled out of !

That’s nicely done . Very cool

Looks great. Wish I still had the monster models I built when I was a kid, loved those movies and models.

Great work on this classic…which I remember vividly in its original Aurora boxing. I think my brothers and I had all of the originals except–for some odd reason–the Frankenstein monster.

I did the reissued Mummy a few years ago, but yours is much spiffier! Also excellent work on the base and rubble, the sand really adds the perfect touch.

Definitely brings back memories from my Aurora days, great job on this.

Very nice. [Y]

Thank you.

I wish I had the monster kits I built as a kid, I’d love to rework them. The ones I did had the glow-in-the-dark heads and hands. I remember them all glowing when I’d turn off the light at night!

I think my favorite was the Creature From the Black Lagoon, gotta find that one someday.
