The "Fokker-Scourge" Revell 1/72 E.III

Hello everyone[:D] Thought I’d share my latest completed build with the forum. This is the tiny Revell Fokker Eindecker E.III. Markings are for Ernst Udet 1915/16

Total time spent on the model was about fifteen hours total. Most of it was spent on the rigging which is .004 clear thread. I think I could do brain surgery now after all the rigging[H] Other then that the kit was pretty easy. Some of the decals fought me namely the iron crosses on the wings didn’t want to come off the paper. Base came from Hobby Lobby. This is the first WWI aircraft I’ve built and now I’m eying the Gotha in my stash!

nice model my dad built a rc model of a eindecker it was 1/4 scale i believe

Very nice, well done. I might have to get one myself

Thanks guys[Y]

Theune the kit is dirt cheap and can be had for under $10

I thought I had my fill of WW1 i/72 stuff after my last Roden Oeffag 153, but I think the little E3 should be cool.

Nicely done. Howd you attach the rigging? Ive been building models 30 years now but only dabbled with planes with rigging when I just recently built my Airfix Widgeon. Im quite interested in learning techniques on this. Thanks

Hi, you could get some stretch thread (can’t recall the name now) and attatch with super glue. It is great as it almost never comes off even if bumbed.

On my 1/72 Oeffag 153 I used stretched sprue that I measured and cut to length. When the ends were dipped into white wood glue (dried relatively clear) it is set into position. As the glue dries it tightens the lines a little.

very nice work for such a small model.

Allen, pretty much the same as Theuns. I’ve tried stretched sprue before but never had any luck with it. Best advice I can give on rigging is take your time and don’t rush it. And maybe get a really cheap biplane to experiment on. Or one without a lot of rigging, like the Fokker D.VII. I’m really itching to build one of my Gotha bombers but I’m no where near ready to rig one of the beasts. Till I get a few more fighters under my belt.

Thank you cnq!

Thanks for the tips. I did something similar with my Widgeon, with the slight difference that I actually drilled small holes to attach the riggings to. I hope the riggings keep taut.

Dandy E-III ya got there!! I built one 3 or 4 years ago and just finished an E-iv for the FSM WW1 aeroplane group build. Posted some pics there. I did my rigging with nylon thread blackened with a marker. Drilled holes in the wings and anywhere the lines entered the fuse or wings. Did most of it with one piece-made friends with Gorilla super glue and accelerator.

Thank you Freem!

Nice little build. I didn’t know there was such a thing as .004 clear thread!

Stuff I got now that waros nicely is called EZ line

T

Thanks f8sader!

Theuns, I might have to pick up the EZ line and try it out.

I mainly use ez line for antennas, but I have founs if you dip the line’s end into cyno and put some accellerator on the area it is supose to go and press it in with tweesers it sticks well. You can even bump the stuff it does not come off.
