This little aircraft, the DFW T.28 Floh (Flea) was designed and flew in 1915. It had some pretty good flying characteristics, but the weird streamlines fuselage that gave it speed (120mph), also severely limited forward vision, particularly at take-off and landing…
Developpement was therefore stopped…
This is my third model of the Floh; my first two were 1/72 vacformed kits which I completed in the actual real scheme the aircraft wore (light grey overal, with black trimmings around the wings and tailplanes); this one is the rather rare 1/48 Eduard kit, which I wanted to model as a ‘what if’, with a typical German camouflage around 1916-17.
There is at least another injected plastic kit out there, also in 1/72, by Elf Models, also quite rare.
Wow, i thought it was like one of those Egg planes. The bigger pic shows it up much better. Thats some seriously good stuff and an interesting subject to boot. Thx for posting.
What a cool looking plane! I also would have thought it was an Egg-Plane if I had not seen photos of one before. Sweet looking build, and one we don’t see very often. [tup]
Not only to I have the Elf kit in my stash, I’ve been wanting to start it pretty soon. At least, after I get a few projects out of the way. Really a unique looking airplane, and you certainly did it justice.
The Elf kit is actually quite nice, if you can find it. Two tailplanes are provided, detail is nice and crisp, and a small fret of PE is included, along with a PE/acetate sandwich instrument panel. Maybe a weekend project, I think.
