I’ve been continuing on the theme of the first jets. This is the He-178 by Condor, the Eduard Profipack He-280, and the Tamiya Me-262. done as V7, the first one that can be built with an available kit in 1/48, as the canopy at least is different on V6, and V5 and down had conventional landing gear and many other differences. I think there may be a 1/72 kit of the first one to fly, limited run. I will be posting build logs on these later, but if I were to get them all done by the end of the year there was no time to prepare the photos for posting.
You are right about the 72nd 262 kit, the one with the tailwheel. There used to be a kit of that and other 262 prototypes. But i have noit seen them for a few years and i can’t recall who made them.
How was the 178. I keep meaning to get the SH 72nd kit, which is a rebox of the Condor kit in that scale.
Thanks, all. I’m finding having a theme to work on energizes my building.
John, the 262 is actually dead flat RLM 76. I saw the 262 that Planes of Fame had when they were still in Ontario in 1965 or 66, and was amazed at how rough the airplane was. So I did my best to convey that. Hopefully it will be more clear in the build log. The other two are certainly satin, as they never got many hours, especially the He-178.
Bish, overall it was a pretty easy build for a limited run kit, however there were a few minor snags. I’m not too sure how accurate it is, the canopy does not look quite right, and beyond that there is a video of it flying that is not too clear but it appears at least on that flight it was flown with only the windscreen. But, it gets the concept across just fine. I can’t help but think that it could have been in the Disney Planes movie with no modification.
