This is one model that had been sitting for awhile because I couldn’t find the instruction sheet to tell me where to apply the decals. After awhile, I just said, “Screw it!” and pulled down another similar model I’d built before and used that as a decal ‘template’. Later I added all the final parts, dullcoated it and weathered it.
Here is Armor Model number 646, my 1/72 scale Trumpeter British MICV Warrior; the third version of this APC to be issued to the British Army:
That’s all the armor I managed to finish this week, despite my best efforts. I don’t know how many more I’ll be able to complete with these two jobs coming up. Hopefully one or two more.
Thanks Carlos. The base color is Testor’s Green Drab; the closest color I could find to “bronze green”. I tried to edit the pics to show it in sunlight hue, but it does still look a bit too brown.
Humbrol makes a good Bronze Green in their line, but I don’t know how you feel about Humbrol paints. I am sure that Leigh would be in my corner on this one about them- I love their stuff… But all that aside, MM Green Drab is not a bad approximation for weathered British Army vehicles. The Brit stuff that I saw up close and personal in Banja Luka would range between that and Tamiya Khaki Drab in color. And believe me, I looked a LOT at that stuff just for modeling purposes…
Thanks for that info Carlos. I do like Humbrol paints, for brushing mostly. I don’t like trying to pour anything out of those tins into a spray bottle for my airbrush so I just stick to Testor’s for that. I had compared the MM Green Drab to the Humbrol color and realized it was “close enough” so I continued using that color for easiness and sanity’s sake. Thanks for the validation on that color again.
Are you going to the Pasadena Valleycon? I’m going and Dora is making an appearance as well. I know she’d love to see you.
LOL! I wish that I could go to any hobby events right now, but since I currently have the most coveted days off of Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, that is out of the picture until I rotate back to weekend off.
As far as getting the Humbrol paint out of the tin for airbrushing, I dont know if you were at the AMPS meeting the first time that Gabriel came up from Secret Society of Modelers, but I watched how he used the little Tamiya stir stick for that from the Tamiya jars on the demonstration that he gave. They have a little spoon end for measuring. Anyways I have been doing that since I saw him do that and boom, no more messy pouring from any tin or bottle. Not to mention precise measuring for my ratios of thinner to paint, or in paint mixtures.
Best of luck to you and Dora at Valleycon my friend!
BTW, Green Drab is an excellent choice for pre NATO tri color on Bundeswehr vehicles- Marders, Leopards, etc. If you dont have any of those in your braile scale army yet.
Thanks Carlos! I missed that AMPS meeting when he came up and showed that technique. Maybe I’ll catch it next time. Thanks for the best wishes at Valleycon. I do hope to do pretty well this time.
I do have one Marder 1A3, and a slew of Leopards, both I and II’s in my Braille Scale Army, but I believe I used the Dark green for the green on the tri-color camo patterns. Oh well, I did build almost all of them about 12-15 years ago when I didn’t have this wealth of information. They still look pretty good!
Hey, I finished two more models that are posted here. Feel free to check them out too.
