The bronze cannons of Fortress Zamosic

Fortress Zamosic is located at the center of Zamosic, a city in south-eastern Poland near the Ukrainean border. The Arsenal in the fortress has a remarkable collection of bronze cannons that are a marvel of the founder’s artistic talent. Here are some examples.

The city of Zamosic was founded in 1580 by Chancellor Jan Zamoyski and modeled after Italian Renaissance architecture. The fortress was built between 1579 to 1618. The arsenal in the fortress houses a remarkable collection of armaments from the 16th to the 18th century. The bronze cannons being the most popular exhibit. Bronze was the preferred metal in early cannons, as it was easily cast, but wore out quicker after repeated use. Later cannons of iron were more durable.

Well !

I have to say , You did it again .Thank You ! T.B.

Dang, reading the title I thought you meant some ancient african fortress, and it turns out you mean a town in my country! The name is Zamość, though. The name comes from the founder, like you wrote, but in Poland the name could be easily understood as “On the other side of the bridge” - “za” meand behind in polish and “most” - is the bridge.

Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

Paweł

Hey Pawel, I was wondering if you saw this post. I can’t find anything about the town, much except tourists photos on Pinterest.

Anthony, nice post.

Hello!

Well I had to read it, i was fascinated by this (imaginary) african fortress!

Here’s a link on Wikipedia:

Today Zamość isn’t much of a town, but those 300 years ago it must have been really something!

Have a nice day
