Since yesterday I can’t make a decision which 1:72 MiG-29 Fulcrum-A and also MiG-29UB Fulcrum-B kit to buy. I really want to make a good one, because our air force use MiG-29s and I’d like to collect all aircraft been in service here. So it is turn to MiG-29. Also I’d like to buy some upgrades like K-36 ejection seat and any available upgrades for 1:72 kit. Plese, let me know your opinion.
I apologize if you have discussed this before, but the forum search doesn’t work at this moment.
Georgi,
I am no expert on this as I haven’t built one yet but have heard good things about Hasagawa, Fujimi and Italeri (but they say this one needs a little work). There are also some newer companies from your part of the world that seem pretty good.
Go to www.aircraftresourcecenter.com . Click on Gallery at the top, than jet aircraft and then Mig-29. There are several 1/72 builds listed.
Hope this helps.
While also no expert. I do have both the Fujimi and Airfix kits. The Fujimi kit is dimensionally wrong in just about all aspects, it isn’t really worth buying. The Airfix (also released by Heller, IIRC) is actully quite accurate if not up to the detail of a Hasegawa kit, but probably half the price. I also have the True Details K-36 which is also quite good.

Best and most accurate is the Airfix 40007 HI TECH SERIES with photoetch and white metal parts right out of the box. You don’t need any aftermarket detail kits for this kit, just stuff like aluminum foil and card, etc, although you may want to add rubber wheels and/or burner cans/nozzles, but I didn’t and the model looks great.
Main problem is kit is expensive and hard to find. In fact, I wouldn’t mind building another one again, if anyone out there happens to have this kit for sale.
Italeri’s kit (same kit in the Testor’s boxing as well) is the most accurate in shape and size. Though not exactly detailed in the way of a Hasegawa, it is very reasonably priced and easily available. And the aformentioned detail sets will make it an even better kit. I’ve had the Hasegawa kit built it and is off when you park it next to the Italeri kit. I do have both and have built them. I have not seen the Fujimi or Airfix’ s offerings built so I will not comment on those.
I would go with the Italeri kit, although Zvezda of Russia has both version of MiG 29 I think. …In Greece the Zvezda series cost about 15-20 euros though…
What is the kit market in Bulgaria by the way…?
I am just dusting off everybodies old threads lately… I looked at this, and there seems to be some argument between the Italeri and the Airfix kits. Anybody care to weigh in on which is most definitive? How about the Zvezda, is it the Italeri mold? And what about the new Condor kit, or the ICM? Any info would help in my future purchases in this area. Thanks!
The Hasegawa, Fujimi, Esci, MIGs were rushed to market and not accurate. Your Best Bet is the Italeri and Airfix. Chuck said the same kit was boxed by Testors which is correct. Be aware however Testors also reboxed the Fujimi kit! Stay clear of kit#343 if you don’t wish to build the Fujimi hiding in a Testors box. The telltale of course is that it sports both a Testors and Fujimi logo. Some of the Eastern European produced MIGSs may be accurate in outline but just to darn heavy handed on the mouldings IMO.
Ken Duffy was the know all to end all on Russian A/C anyone know his website URL?
In my own experience with 1/72 MiG-29s, its the Italeri one that’s best, it also comes in Bilek boxing. Aries makes a very nice cockpit for it and Extratech makes a nice photoetch set for it.
Whatever you do, stay away from the old Revell one.
