I think this is just someone trying to advertise something, cuz it showed up on Scale Auto Magazine’s site too… perhaps the powers that be should take this thread away

I purchased this kit on ebay and I thought that the dedicated modelers out there would be interested in a product that is as great as I said. I AM NOT ADVERTISING for this product. Just thought that modelers would be interested in it.

Let’s see, 4catMan has 3 posts on this board. All of which deal with touting products by this “Everclear” company being sold on EvilBAY. Makes me go hmmmmmm. What is this site’s policy on advertising in the forums? I looked but I couldn’t find it.
When I made this post, 4catMan had only one post. He had been idle for 8 days, and the exact same message showed up on Scale Auto. Now, if I’m wrong, sorry I offended you. It’s just that I’ve seen stuff like this happen before, so I’m calling on past experiences. Like I said, if I’m wrong, sorry, didn’t mean to call you out or anything. But if you joined the site to advertise the product, stop.

Here’s all the facts.
The Windshield (window) system consists of plastic brackets (half round) that you cut to size and glue flat side up on the inside of your vehicle around the window opening, top, sides and bottom if needed. The window glass is a clear mylar sheet that you cut larger than the window opening. After the brackets have dried completely, you press the mylar against the opening from the inside and mark the location of the brackets on the mylar, cut the mylar slightly larger, then it’s just a little fine tuning (trimming) to get it to fit tightly against the window frame. The mylar snaps into place and is held in place by the brackets.
TA DAA… no glue on the glass, ever, really cool, I got hold of some of my own mylar, tinted, and now I own a PIMP MOBILE, lol
Sounds like alot of work.
I’ll need to see some examples before I try it, Future and plain white glue will work for me until then.

Anyone ever try this stuff? I have an antique model I’m building and the windshield is damaged. I can buy another kit off eby but they don’t come up very often and are a bit pricey.

I haven’t used it but the concept is similar to what some truly top rate contest auto modelers are doing. Juha Ahrio (prob. spelled wrong) and Steve Boutte both use flexible plastic (usually acetate) and snap it into place with no glue. You can see their work in any of the car modeling magazines. I saw Steve Boutte at a contest in his hometown of Lafayette, LA this past weekend and he talked about it. He doesn’t put brackets. He scribes a recess all the way around the opening on the inside (yes, it’s a lot of work). He said it usually takes multiple test fits and throwaways but the result is outstanding. Extremely clear and distortion-free and, of course, no glue. It’s work but there are probably no shortcuts to modeling at that high level.
