The Armor of WWI

Hello Fellas.

[bow] I getting ready to start a pair of WWI MKV. Brit. Male and Female tanks. (one of each)

I need some detail info.

Does anyone know of some good websites or books on these tanks?

Also any detail info I would love.

Thanks Guys.

A good starting point would be http://www.landships.freeservers.com/ and it also has links to many other sites…

Osprey/Vangaurd’s got a book on them with color plates and lots of info;

British Mark I Tank 1916, # 100, New Vangaurd Series by David Fletcher, ISBN # 184176 689 5, 2004 www.ospreypublishing.com

What are the differences between “male” and “female”

(yes, I’m refering to WWI tanks)

Male had a cannon – 57mm, I think? – and the female was armed with machine guns.

Brumbles is correct. The “Male” versions had 6 pounder guns, while the “female” versions had machine guns only.

Since the tank was a new invention in WW1, most looked very odd and functioned on a primitive scale. My favorite WWI tank is the French St. Chamond. It looks like a big box on tracks. Does anyone make a kit for it?

Memory, don’t fail me now!

Ironic how the French made such cool and efficient tanks in WWI, but their doctrine didn’t allow them to be properly used when the krauts invaded in 1940.

ya I have noticed that also bout French armor, like you said they had some nice tracks (tanks) but the way they used them just wasn’t the best.

Check with “RJ Products” at rjproducts.com–I thunk I remember seeing a full resin kit of the St. Chamond.

Sorry Doog, couldn’t find a thing.

If anyone wants a good site for WW1 French Armor, check out www.chars-francais.net

Lots of pics. The site can be viewed in English.
