The 2013 Automotive Group Build

This GB is open to anyone who feels like building an automotive, non military vehicle with one, two, three, four or many wheels. That’s it, it’s open to road cars, racing cars, motorbikes, trucks, construction machinery, buses, firetrucks, police cars, trikes and anything else you can think of.

It will run from now until December 31st 2013.

You can enter models in any stage of completion, as long as they are not fully complete.

Crossovers are fine and welcome.

The only rules are that the subject is not military, and it doesn’t fly or sail.

You can use any material, kit, aftermarket, decals or whatever.

Please enter your photos along the way and engage in conversation with fellow builders.

Sign up anytime.

Here’s a badge (Thanks to Greentracker98 and Pyrman).

Cheers

Tony

This is the first kit I’ll nominate, it’s a Hasegawa Jaguar XJR-9LM, in 1/24.The kit I have includes the tobacco sponsorship decals, which is good.

I’ve just made a start on the wheels, cleaning up the rims and using a sanding stick to reduce the seam on the rubber tyres, and depict the ‘grippy’ look of racing tyres. Next I’ll future the sidewalls and add the stencils. The rims have subsequently been sprayed flat black, as has the cockpit insert, dashboard, seat and steering wheel.

This is my fourth Hasegawa XJR Jag, and from experience the only internal that can really be seen is the seat.

I’m just taking it one GB at a time.

Here’s another one. This one has a significant bit of work done, but still quite a ways to go too.

…and again. I’ve only sprayed the base color on the body so far. This is the old 1/32 1966 Mustang.

I bought this one second hard, thinking it was unstarted. WRONG ! I’ve stripped it back and started again. Anyways it will be finished in a different livery, with decals from Patto’s for a car that raced at Spa in 1971. It just had a gloss coat of Future over the body and decals. Photos to follow, it’s a bit wet right now.

and lastly, this one is started, but not too far gone. Progress pics to follow. It’s my first resin car kit.

ok…I’m game.

Here’s my list:

  • Revell Cadillac Escalade - Zombie-proofed SUV
  • Revell `77 GMC wrecker - Popo tow
  • Revell `77 GMC pickup - FD brush truck
  • AMT/ERTL 1996 Dodge Ram Dually

Welcome abourd Greg. Awesome work, that’s 9 models on the roster already. I hope you enjoy the GB.

Cheers

Tony

Here’s the latest progress on the Jaguar XJR-9LM. The tyre sidewalls are glossed and ready for the stencils to be applied.

Here’s the current status of the Alfa GTAm 2000. I’ve used Future for the gloss coat, which I don’t usually do on cars, as Patto’s decal instructions advise that it is the only compatible gloss coat for those decals. I’ll give it a few days before I polish it out.

Tony

Here’s the current status of the Ferrari F186. I’ve made the seat cover furry like the real thing, but the kit seat belts are stiff stainless steel and I’m unable to make them realistic. I like the way the wheels have come out.

I just started building a 53’ Triaxle Van Trailer for Carlisle Transport (Ice Road Truckers), it’s made of 2 AMT’s 40’ trailers. I have Lisa Kelly’s W-900 Kenworth, and It’s about half done, but I need some after market parts to update the Kenworth, but I can’t afford that right now. So just put me down for the trailer, and if I can get the parts I need for the Kenworth, I’ll do that too. A semi trailer can stand alone as you see them sitting in trucking yards all the time

I also recently got AMT’s 2011 Camaro, (I’m calling it a 2012) so

My list is; both in 1/25 scale

Carlisle’s 53’ triaxle Van trailer

2012 Camaro Convertible

Pics will be posted this evening

Thanks

Mr. Ken Worth

They sound like terrific projects Ken. I’d love to see the Kenworth done too. I’ll look forward to your pics.

The build roster has been updated. We’re up to 11 builds

Tony thanks! I’m in with this 1/25 Revell 49 Merc

I’ll be getting rid of all the chrome,ca’nt stand the stuff. If it aint fast chrome it!

I’ve got a few others time allowing that might get added later. Got good feelings about this g/b thanks for hosting it!

Tax I’d like to see the kenworth finished too, LOL

Trey I agree I have good feelings about this group too

Pics are on their way

I’m glad you’re building that thing Trey, I like the cars of that era.I’ll be keen to see how good the kit is, as I might have to invest.

I’m really liking the diversity of subjects already in this GB, and I’ll do my best to keep the energy up as we go along.

I’ve added the Merc to the build roster. That makes a dozen so far !!!

Cheers

Tony

This is what I’m going for on Lisa’s Truck, except it won’t be a reefer truck
