That Tomcat came in really low...

Check it out!!

The text in the pic is a bit hard to read so I´ll type it out:

“This is an actual fly-by during deployment of the Nuclear Aircraft Carrier USS Stennis. The pilot was grounded for 30 days, but he likes the picture and thinks it was worth it. Yikes!”

Dunno if anything is worth 30 days of not being able to do that … but it’s close[;)]

Cool pic. But, I have to say, that was a dumb move by a “professional.”

urban legend of sorts
The pilot is Capt Dale “Snort” Snodgrass. Pretty well renowned tomcat pilot. And it was a planned flyby. The Secnav is one of the guys on the LSO platform. He was obviously, not grounded.

i have that already framed that takes alot of guts and only the navy pilots could pull something like that and walk away from it navy rules air force drules

Yes, It would take a Navy pilot to do something that crazy[;)] Nice pic

Man, I have ta agree!! Only NAVY can pull it off!! My uncle slow-rolled the A3D many times but, nuttin’ like this tho!![:-^]

Strange how myths like that pops up now and then. Some years ago there was a myth that the stuntman doing the bungy jump in the pre-credids of the Bond movie “Goldeneye” snapped his back and was killed during that jump. I have later learned that that is not true.

Yeah, but did the air traffic controller spill his coffee?[%-)]

Navy may rule in some minds, but those same supporters need to go back to school. “Drules”? I used to sit in the courtroom as a reporter and watch a certain judge, a former Naval officer, give defendants the opportunity of a) going to jail b) getting their HS diploma or c) joining the Navy (assuming they could pass a GED). Obviously, too many of them accepted option c.

(From a, needless to say, literate USAF family)

HA HA.
You “join” the navy, ot the air force for that matter, and you ain’t gonna fly the fighters with a GED, let alone the high school diploma. No how , no way.
Look at the guys in the white jerseys, cameras at the ready, looks like a photo op to me.
The angle may be deceiving. . .

Don

That´s true, but as you can see, the wiew of the wing closest to the ground is blocked by stuff on the deck, meaning that the AC is beyond the carrier. Following, looking at the mere size of the AC compared to the guys on deck, you get a pretty good idea.

don’t want to hijack(there are plenty of “cat” shots here as well)
I love the "oops wrong button at the bottom of the page, check it out, you’ll see what I mean!

That aircraft was doing a planned move. Also, it’s more than 50 ft. to the water from the flt. deck, so he was high enough. The only one I 've seen that can beat that is a B-52 doing a fly by of the Ranger and only seeing the vertical stab going by like shark.[8D][:D] Great shot! Thanks for putting it up.[:)]
Eddie

It’s only 60’

Pretty much a regular deal on long deployments from what I’ve heard. It’s common or regular practice for the CAG to have a Tomcat perform a high speed morale fly-by. Again, just what I heard.

As far as Navy, Air Force, or Marine jet jocks goes…They’re all customers to me. [;)]

Whataya say Don?

I knew someone would correct me.[;)] You’d think a guy who worked there for 4 yrs would remember that. It was all the same to me. If I went over the side, 10ft. wouldn’t make a difference. It’s either getting chopped up by the screws or you’re sharks#*t[xx(]

We would have supersonis fly bys fairly often out on WESPAC. Here are two I was able to photograph. Sorry about the hi-jack[:)]
Eddie

“Nice pics”, thx, they r really cool.

AMEN!!!

Flying low you say, eh?
I’ll see your F-14 with this Skyraider, mate.
HEADS UP!

All the best folks!
