Testors/Italeri

could someone tell me a bit about the P-47 Bubbletop and P-51D from Testors. Are these models reboxes of someone elses? If so, from whom? They look very similar to the old Monogram kits. How is the quality of the kits? I’ve built armour stuff from Testors, but have no experience with thier plane kits. Thanks…

They are really old kits. If memory serves, they were originally tooled by Hawk back in the 1970’s or early 80’s. They are not in the same league as the modern kits from Tamiya/Hasegawa.

Regards, Rick

The P51-D from Testors/Italeri in 1/48 is the old Hawk kit. Fit is reasonable, but be prepared for filler. Panel lines are recessed, but large and deep. The interior is missing, as you’d expect. Newer kits get an instrument panel, but look out for that seat! I’ve built one, and with effort a decent model can be made. However, it’s not even close to Tamiya.

The Testor’s P-51 and P-47 are old, old, Hawk kits from the mid 60’s. I built them way back then several times. They were great in their day!

i have\had the P-47…it was real bad ,so i used it as a test bed for learning the kitchen foil technique before i started the B-29…then i crashed it into my trash can
