Testors/Italeri Opel Blitz S

I would to hear your thoughts and comments on the 1/35 Testors/Italeri Opel Blitz S kit (#824).

Has anyone built this kit? Is it similar in quality to the Testors/Italeri Dodge WC-54 Ambulance and the 3/4 Ton Dodge (WC-56 “Beep”) kits?

I know there are probably better kits out there, but for the price (<$15) does this build up as a decent kit with a little scratchbuilding or aftermarket add-ons?

Your thoughts, experiences, and “war” stories would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Regardless of the box it is in or the variant produced, they are all basically the exact same kit. I believe the quality is better than the Dodge WC series kits. Those kits were ancient Peerless Max kits that Italeri gained control of in the 1980s. The Revell, Italeri or Testors Opel kits are one in the same.

I’ve built all three of the versions, same kit for sure. They go together well. A little AM goes a long way with these. I love the Blitz. You won’t be disappointed, especially for under 15 bucks.

SteveM

A very charismatic vehicle, and a very lovable kit. There are no major problems with it. All of the parts will go together reasonably well. A little AM will go a long way if you so desire, but they will give you a great model right out of the box. All they need is a careful paint job.

Okay, so I finally got the “opened, complete, unstarted except for a little paint” kit in the mail…but when I opened it, all the parts and sprues and everything felt “rubbery.” Some parts flexed and gave with the slightest pressure, while others were a little more rigid, but still more pliable than usual. This is not anything like I have experienced with any kit, let alone an old Testors kit.

Is this the way the kit parts are normally?? Or did I get a “damaged” kit?

I’m thinking that the kit was either exposed to heat or a thinner/solvent of some sort. If so, anybody have any suggestions for fixing this condition. I have a sneaking suspicion that I will just have to buy another (this time new) kit. Thanks in advance for any help.

Wow, never heard of anything like this. Seems very sketchy. Try leaving it out in open air, with no humidity for a few days to see whether it will ‘dry up’.
