Greetings,
Has anyone tried Testors airbrush kit? It looks like it attaches to a typical spray can. I thought I might try it out. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
I got one as part of a trade. Absolutely worthless. Glad I didn’t pay for one. As my grandfather tried to tell me: “You buy cheap, you buy twice.”. Invest in a good airbrush and compressor, you will be much happier.
If that’s what I think it is, I would say don’t bother. Although I’ve never used that specific item, my first airbrush was Testor’s airbrush version of it that uses the same bottle/spray head assembly, but attaches to a separate airbrush body rather than directly to a propellant can.
The airbrush version actually works surprising well (and probably a little better than the version you are looking at), but is still provides little more control than a regular spray can. Freehand camoflage is not possible, everything has to masked. Subtle effects such as a light spray to simulate dust are dificult and due to the relatively poor atomization not nearly as effective as with a slightly better brush. Lastly, because the spray is mostly uncontrolled, you naturally waste paint. You go through a lot of paint with one of those because you end up painting not only the model, but the interior of your paint booth with overspray.
If you were trying to introduce a six or seven year old to airbrushing, and didn’t trust him with something as intricate as a conventional airbrush, I think cheapo Testor’s thing would be a good option, particulary the airbrush version. Otherwise, spend a wee bit more money.
For a simple to use, inexpensive airbrush, consider a Paasche H. I have one and it is excellent. Easy to use, rugged as an anvil, yet provides fine line control sufficient to do something detailed as freehand camo on a 1/72 scale tank.
I’ve been very pleased with my Testors/Aztec airbrush but it is a different model than pictured in the previous post. The one I use is like the 4305

and has interchangeable nozzles depending on what type of painting or kind of paint I’m using. I find it works quite well and can always get replacement parts with just a call to testors like the two nozzles I bent the needles on. I will say that one really needs a bigger air supply than those little cans testors sells. I can’t see one of those getting through even one plane. I bought a 3-gal tanked compressor and find it perfect for airbrushing.
There are no Good and Bad Airbrush, are that YOU can use with easiness than other.
I have 4 Airbrushes one to each type of work.
I use these set

I have used these Airbrush for 8 years and I love it, I have other airbrushes, but only with these and the Tan Nozzle I can do fine lines, these camouflages I did using it:
They are on 1/144, so each model has only 2" length
Last week, my Testors Airbrush body has problems on trigger to lock the air, so I try to use the Lifetime Warranty Testors. I just e-mail to Testor and they say to send it to replace !
Now I´m waiting the replace of the Airbush.
I like a lot my Testors Airbrush
