Testors 1/72 RF-4C Questions

Has anybody built this kit? If so what pitfalls should I be aware of? I know it’s an old Italeri any other “history” I should be aware of? Is it accurate? Jumping the gin a liitle bit here with the construction (destruction?) of this kit, but I kept looking at it on my shelf and couldn’t resist. I’ll try to get some pics posted as soon as I can.

I’ve built both the RF-4C and the F-4G. They have the look and feel of a Phantom which is all that matters to me. They lack the “finnesse” of a Hasegawa kit but they’re cheap. The only real problem was in the cockpit. Everything sits too low and too far back. I built up the floor and consoles with .040 sheet and made a newe rear bulkhead and instrument panels. Sounds like a lot of work but it wasn’t considering the fact that the rest of the kit was an easy build with excellent fit and almost no filling. Hope thi helps.

Thanks for the info. I’ve left the pit alone as this one will be sitting on my shelf and isn’t for display. I’m still trying to do a model of each type I’ve seen and gthe icing on the cake with this one is the Nevada ANG decals which is the ones I’ve seen.

Testors/Italeri Phantoms…

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I will agree, they do look like Phantoms when finished…

Fade to Black…

I haven’t had the 1/72 scale but I did buy the 1/48. It is just a scaled up version of the one you have. I never built it as it has some parts that don’t even look like the real thing. The landing gear, seats, instrument panels, and cockpit, just to name a few. With better ones on the market, it wasn’t worth the effort to correct all the problems.

I usually buy the 1/48 Testors RF for the decals. With some of the better kits out there, it gives you more options. Hmmmm, bout time for a rerelease of this one, wonder what the chances are of getting Nevada ANG markings with it?
