temporarily gluing the canopy down?

hey fellas,

i have noticed in several build articles that the builder has the canopy glued down during painting and then in the final, finished model shots, he/she has it displayed with the canopy open. what is the best technique or adhesive to use to do this?

I have had great luck using Elmers white glue. It goes on easily, holds reasonably well, and removes VERY easily with a Q-tip dampened with water. HTH! [tup]

Use some Elmers or Microscale Krystal Kleer. Use it sparingly and then pop the canopy off when the paint is finished. usually three or four spots is enough to keep the canopy in place. Just be gentle when you remove the canopy. Good luck.

I am using the HandiTac to do it. Simple and removable at any time.

Good idea Greg, never thought of using it for that.

I’ve tried the Blu-Tack/Handi-Tack method and it’s never really worked for me, operator error I’m sure. I have found that the good old white glue (Elmers) never fails.

I usually attach the front canopy as soon as the fuselage is finished sanding and primered. I use clean part glue for this - a permanent placement. This way I can putty any misfits of the canopy/fuselage pretty easily.

The sliding canopy has to be painted anyway, so after I mask them I attach them to the fuselage with HandiTac - this way I can use the same painting process (except internal color first [:)]) as for the fuselage. Save me the cockpit from damage and it works pretty good. As far as using HandiTac for front canopy - I do not think it will work, not enough surface to hold it.

I use woodland scenics’ scenery adhesive. Its like a thick white glue, but it remains tacky after it dries. Similar to rubber cement. Just a super thin layer on the edges of the canopy only, then let it dry and tack it down. Paint, then open it back up. Havent had a problem with it yet. I also like it for doors and hatches on my helos and armor.

I just slobber all over it and slap it on.

JK… white glue works for me.

it sounds like a good idea [:)]

I use micro-mask. It goes on easy, is easy to get the canopy off and best of all is suuuper easy to clean off the parts after you are done.

I use Testor’s Cement for Clear parts. t pops right off and cleans up easily.

That’s our Jon! [swg]
