Hey all!
Considering building an F4U Corsair in the future and, if possible, I’d like to build the one that Ted Williams flew when he was in the Marines in WWII.
The thing is, I’ve been unable to find any information as to what squadron he flew in during World War 2 or any information as to what the markings on his plane looked like.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Happy Modeling!!
You won’t find anything for WW2 as he was an instructor pilot, and was waiting in Hawaii as a replacement pilot when the war ended.

He did fly the F9F Panther in the Korean war and I believe he saw action…If anything just build a Corsair that was based out of Pensacola NAS and say Ted William flew it.
I’m currently working on an F4U that Greg Boyington flew, the 883. What I’m finding out is that, in general, the Pacific theater was different than the European in regards to personal planes. After the mission briefing, all the Marine Corps pilots would pile onto the flight line vehicle, which would then proceed down the row of planes. The crew chief would be standing there giving either a thumbs up, for a plane in working order, or a thumbs down, for a sick bird. If a thumbs up was given the next pilot in line would disembark the vehicle and strap in that aircraft. The aircraft might not have even necessarily belonged to that squadron! So while you might have had planes with personal art, there was no guarantee that the pilot would actually fly that plane on any given day. I know this really doesn’t help with your situation, but maybe it’ll help in the future. Raymond
