Anybody know where to find a TBM Avenger kit? Not picky as to scale, I got a friend who thinks it is the greatest plane and was wanting to build one for him as a gift. It seems that every other plane from WWII is available but that one[banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead][banghead]
Many kits of that are made. The general consensus is that Accurate Miniatures makes the best 1/48. I’d say that Hasegawa makes the best in 1/72. I may be wrong but Trumpeter may be planning a 1/32 scale offering. All can be bought through most online companies or from better hobby shops.
I just picked up two of the1/48 AM kits from Squadron - very, very nice.
I got one of the AM kits as a gift- very nice molding- crisp detail and panels lines… my only complaint would be no pretty box art!
Another vote for the Accurate Miniatures kit. I’ve built three, and loved each one. Just thinking about it makes me want to get another !
Academy makes one in 1/72 but I haven’t built one yet…It looks decent in the box though.
I built the 1/72 Hasegawa kit about a year ago. Excellent fit, detail, and a piece of cake to build. (The only tough part is painting the canopy - but that will be the same no matter what mfg makes it.) It had decals for planes in both a pacific tri-color scheme and an atlantic white/grey scheme. I would heartily recomend it.
AVOID the 1/48 Monogram. It looks like a refugee from the days when kits were compromised by the need for working features for play value. Probably the worst kit I’ve ever built.
Bossman, I’ll check out that Hasegawa bird, I think that Atlantic scheme looks good, and I can use the second set of 'cals on my Academy…[:D]
Like PIXILATER i have built 3 of the Acurate Miniatures and I love them too. These things are awesome. And if I’m not mistaken I have seen some at the local Hobby Lobby near me sochances are there might be one around your area
the accuate miniatures is THE choice. built straight from the box it’s a beauty. you can still get eduard sets for it also, if you want to go the whole shee-bang.
I’ve build a 1/72 hasegawa avanger, it was one of the best kits I’ve build. everthing fitted perfectly, the only thin that didn’t went that well was masking the windows, the rest of the plane was easy to bulid and it has nice detail.
This is the avenger i build (large picture!!!):
Yeah, I found one of the 1/48 Monograms yesterday…What a turd. I’ve alway said that you can’t polish a turd but you can cover it with paint! May have to blow it up when I’m finished[:D][:D]
forgot to mention; if you get the am -3 version, don’t forget to order up the corrected prop from meteor prod. the kit comes with the early blades.
I just think the directions stink. Putting the interior together, fit wise, can be a nightmare. Granted, beautiful detail but horrendous directions. I have three of them, all unbuilt in various stages. I am growing tired of lousey instructions and poor fit models. That is why, I am buying stock in Tamiya. They knbow how to do it.
I’m currently building the TBM-1C Avenger kit from Accurate Miniatures. I think they make the best Dauntlesses and Avengers. I wish I knew about them before I purchased my B-25 Revel-Monogram kit. I here they make the best B-25s too. Cannot wait for their SB2U Vindicator when that comes out!
