I’m building the Italeri reboxing of the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 TBF Avenger, and the directions are very loose. I am making a TBM 1-C, and have already found several things that I had to change from the directions to make the TBM 1C from the TBF 1C, though they were mainly interior painting and a small control panel modification. My question is: did all TBM 1Cs have ports for underwing rockets, because some sources I see say this, but I’ve seen what are supposed to be TBM 1Cs that don’t have them. Also, did they all have the underwing radar, or did some TBM 1Cs not have this, because the illustration that I’m basing this off of does not show them, but the illustration had one other error in it, so I cannot be 100% sure of it’s accuracy. Any aircraft-type can have a certain designation and differ from another with the same nomenclature in photos… Also, not every photo has a correct caption.
Rather than a diffinative answer, it’s likely you’ll have to use whatever you feel is the best ref you have and go with that. But given the very nature of your build, in that you’re going from a Grumman-built Turkey to a GM-built one should give you enough license…
