There seems to be a educated group of Harrier fans subscribing to this forum…is it realistic to think TAV-8s would ever be loaded out with live Mk-83s?
Thanks for your time,

If you look at the Italian or other countries Tav-8b’s, I think you’ll find them carring something upto a GBU-12 on atleast 2 hardpoints. I don’t think Marine TAV-8B’s
carry live weapons - or atleast I haven’t seen any pictures of that - don’t mean I’m right.
TAV-8B’s did have the capabilities of carrying live Mk 83’s. It is very rare that they do. Most of the ones I loaded only carried the inert stuff.
Because they were mainly used for training pilots to fly with the extra weight. It was very rare that they used live ones. That is not to say they couldn’t… It was just a cost effective thing I guess…
The most common thing they would fly are the mk 76 pratice bomblets or the mk 82 inert bombs.
Hey-
TAV-8B’s are currently not authorized to carry MK-83’s either live or inert. If you want to put someting on a USMC TAV-8B, you are limited to fuel tanks, AIM-9’s, practice bombs (on ITERs) or rocket pods (LAU-10, LAU-68 or LAU-61). Oh, and also the baggage pod. Not sure about foriegn TAV-8B’s.
