Tank wheel painting techniques

I am looking for suggestions for painting the rubber portions of wheels. Ideally, I would like to airbrush them, but am wondering about the best way to mask. Or is hand painting with a brush the best solution. What is easier? What is the best step-by-step process?

Thanks,

ADB

This comes up often. Do a search and you will find a bunch of posts about it.

Here’s how I do it. Leave the roadwheels on the sprue. Spray the whole sprue flat black. Go to a art supply store and get a circle template. It is hard plastic with various sizes of circles cut out of it. Find the hole that fits the inner hub of your roadwheel. Hold the template over each wheel and spray the center hub the color you desire. That is it. Now cut the roadwheels off the sprue and assemble them. Trim the sprue attachment point and touch it up with flat black. Lastly, attach them to the painted hull and weather it all together.

Good luck.
