Do you paint the turret machine guns on tanks gun metal or steel ??
I think gun metal would probably be the more appropriate colour. You can even colour it steel and give it a black wash to darken it. Either or will look fine.

It depends on the machine gun. The most popular tank kits are German WWII, and these should have shiny black MGs.
I learned a while ago that American machine guns were “Parkerized” with the result that they had a greenish tinge to them.

I do not know what this process entailed so if anyone can enlighten the rest of us, please do
try painting it black, then drybrushing with gunmetal, and then drybrushing with the steel more lightly than the gunmetal. i find that works
I’ve been using a really cool trick lately. I use semi gloss black, then brush on SNJ metalizer powder to replicate wear, etc. It really gives a nice effect and since I know what US machine guns look like in service from my tank experience, I think it’s right on the money…
