TANK HUNTER GB Feeler

Yo SchattenSpartan I’m interested! I’ve got a Italeri Jagdpanzer IV that I started for Tigerman’s “Hunters” GB back in 08. Its about 20% started and I want to finish it. I’ve also got Dragon’s Jagdpanzer IV A, SU-100, and Jagdpanther if the started kit won’t work.

Cliff: The title sounds good, but as you said already: It’s only referring to the American TDs…

Greg: Yep, paper tanks are allowed as well!

Jibber: Nice to have you in here!

I’d forgotten I had the E Series ones in the stash. Which kit are you planning to build.

Ernst brings up a good suggestion. How about Hunter’s II for a title.

That one sounds good, mate!

Ernest: No worries about those 20% everything up to 50% done is allowed! My Hetzer is at 30% now, but I have to fix a lot of mistakes I made back then, so it will take some extra time to get everything to look alright…

So “Hunters II” it is? I can still change the title if you guys want, but I’ll post it like that in the calendar. The only thing that needs to be done is to create a badge. I’ll try to make one, but I’m not very good at that stuff. Anyone willing to help me out?

I’ll see what I can come up with. I have done a few but they are all pretty basic at the moment, unless someone else is able to produce something better.

I thought about posting a list of all the vehicles allowed in this GB. I’d need your help with that one though…

We have to decide on some special cases as well:

The Sherman firefly was designed to destroy enemy tanks and used an AT gun for this job. Do you think we should put it on the list as well?

It’s a similar thing with the StuGs. The early StuG-IIIs were designed as a self propelled infantry support gun, but later versions were upgraded with an AT gun and used to destroy tanks. Should all the StuGs be allowed here, or just the late versions (F and G) or should we leave all of them off the list?

There are several vehicles like that, so I need your help with that decision as well…

As far as the StuG goes I would include the long barrelled versions but not the short ones. I believe that whats they did in the first Hunter’s GB and I think its a good idea.

As for the Firefly, most tanks are designed to destroy tanks, and so their gun is an AT gun, whether it be designed just for that vehicle or devolved from an towed AT gun. So personally, I would say no to the Firefly.

Count me in. Date and time sounds good. Lets go tank hunting!

I’d agree with Bish, the Firefly is a tank, an assault gun with a long gun is a tank killer.

It does bring up though stuff like the SU-152 ‘Animal Killer’ (I love that name!) which was designed as an anti-infantry assault gun but when it was discovered that 152mm HE could rip the turret clean off a Panther or Tiger ended up being used as a tank killer too. Or Japanese SPGs that since they were the only AFVs with 75mm guns got pressed into service as tank destroyers.

Just here to muddy the waters still further!

PS: The more I think about it I agree with the rule of using vehicles purposely designed to hunt tanks rather than just is pressed into service because nothing better is available so both examples above would be ruled out.

I think I can get in with Dragon #6689 Pz.Kpfw.IV L/70(A).The long time frame will allow me to start later in the year after I clear up some other builds.

I managed to create 2 badges, but I’m not sure if you like them or not:

Bish came up with the idea to make one for each nation: Germany, Russia, America. I know there are other countries than those 3 but I’ll only make a badge for them if someone actually builds a vehicle with that nationality…

Here’s the German badge:

I decided to go with a Hetzer instead of the allmighty Jagdpanther because I think the latter is completely overused for badge designs. The font is meant to resemble the font used by the germans in WW2.

I also made a German Badge in German. It says “Jäger” Instead of “Hunters” which is basically the exact same thing. Being a German native speaker has its advantages, eh?

And here’s another badge. The American one!

So what do you think? Are they good enough? They are designed in layers, so I can change the photos in the background at any time if you don’t like them…

Please keep in mind that they are only the badge prototypes and the final badges will be scaled down a lot (working on big pictures is just way easier…)

AWESOME! I like them a lot Clemens! Great job. What are you going to use for the Russian one? Still not sure which one I’m going to commit to yet. Heck, I may do 2! Thanks for running the GB Clemens. This will be a good one!

SS, could put up a short list of acceptable vehicles, I think it would eliminate a few questions and save you some headaches.

Many Thanks! I think I’ll use a pic of an SU-100 with russian-looking letters and a star in the lower left corner…

Jibber: I already announced that I’d try to do that, but I need some help from you guys. There is no way i know all vehicles that fit in here…

Don’t forget about the Italians, here’s a couple of the better known ones :

Semovente 47/32

Semovente 90/53

Jack

Great work on the badges SS, the simple ones are often the best.
