Tank destroyer with double doors in the back?

Back in the '90’s when I was a youngster, I built a 1/72 kit of a tank destroyer. Pretty sure the box art had it in winter camouflage, which is how I painted it. On the rear of the superstructure, instead of one access door like the Jagdpanther has, I believe it had double doors that latched in the middle. Does anyone remember this kit and know what vehicle it was? I was just thinking about that old kit I built.

Chris

It could be sdKfz 186 JagdTiger (Hunting Tiger )

Could an '88 on the PzIV chassis Nashorn

Nope, I think Shellback nailed it. I couldn’t remember if it was German or Soviet, but it did have the casement and gun mounted forward, with the engine deck in the rear. Wonder if they make a 1/35 kit of those? Can’t decide between that or one of the Soviet SPG’s.

Oh yeah. Thanks, guys!

If it was 1/72 and in the 80’s, it may have been the Esci Jagdtiger kit. If I recall correctly, the aforementioned doors were hinged and could be opened, though there was nothing inside to look at. It’s still available, reboxed by Italeri.

Yep, I think that was it, Phil. The box art looks VERY familiar.

There’s a lot of kits of the “Hunting Tiger” in 1/35th . Tamiya and DML (Dragon) have good choices . Here’s a couple of 1/35th kits i found on Sprue Bros. web site [Y]

What about Soviet SPG’s? I’m thinking maybe an SU-100 or 122 in 1/35. Who makes a decent kit of one of those?

When you get on the Sprue Bros . web site you can look around for more kits you want …its a user friendly site . Once you see what you want try “googling” the tank kit your interested in . There’ a lot available.

If you decide that the Jagdtiger was the one you were looking for/thinking of… the Tamiya kit released at the end of '08 was one of the finest kits i’ve built and highly recommend.
