Tank and armor treads

What is the best way of painting armor treads? Acrylics do not seem to work well.

I pretty much only use acrylics for everything cept the glossy items.

I use tamiya XF-1 (flat black ) as a base then mix some XF-1 and XF- 64 ( red brown ) to make a wash ( diluted heavily in either water or alcohol ) then wipe it on liberaly, after it dries go over it in pastels for rust and maybe some pastels for dust/grime pending on a field model or a track park kinda scene?

Pirate409, are you brushing or spraying? Brush painting put a thicker coat of paint on and this could crack and chip when the tracks are flexed. Is this the problem you are having?

I also use Acrylics but, before joining, I give them a few good dull coats.

Perhaps you didn’t wash them first? Paint will adhere better to freshly clean parts.

Welcome to the armor forum Pirate409. I hope the tips help you out. Good luck.

Whoops! Sorry Pirate409, welcome to the forums. I should also say welcome to the Dark Side. You have made the right choice.

Welcome to FSM and to the Armour Forum Pirate409.

Never really had any trouble with acrylics on my tracks either … not sure what brand your using … I use Tamiya and sometimes Model Master.
