Tamyia spray paint over Mr Hobby Aqueous -- bad reaction?

I’m getting a really ugly reaction when spraying Tamiya TS red over Mr Hobby aqueous white primer, anyone else run into this? Also, what’s the best way to strip the TS paint so I can start over?

I think you’re trying to spray lacquer over acrylic. The can says ‘TS SPS’.

I have good luck stripping paint with Super Clean. Its available at Walmart in the automotive dept. Comes in a one gallon container for not much money. Just submerge the parts you want to strip in a bath of the Super Clean. It should come off in a day or so, with light brushing occasionally. Doesn’t hurt plastic and should work on the water based primer too. You can re-use the cleaner repeatedly.

Some people use oven cleaner instead. Just put the parts to be stripped in a sealable baggie and spray the oven cleaner in there with the parts and seal it up.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Agree with Peter - Super Clean is great for stripping paint and chrome off plastic!

You have sprayed a lacquer paint over a water based acrylic that’s what’s causing the problem. Tamiya paints are sometimes reactive to other paints , even if they are base paint. For instance you cannot use a Tamiya acrylic thinner with a AK acrylic paint because it will curdle or go lumpy you need to use distilled water or a AK acrylic thinner, because Tamiya acrylic is a alcohol based paint. Sometimes a quick google search will give you an answer if you want to combine different brands of paints.
