Tamiya's 1/35 Willys Jeep (Pic's)

Got my camera back today and the first thing I did was get some pic’s of this little guy.

I was given this kit about two years ago for my birthday by my girlfriend, along with a couple of other’s.Got about halfway done when her cat decided that he wanted to add a little battle damage[:(!].After picking up the pieces I put it away in a storage bin were it stayed till about three week’s ago.Instead of tossing it or just using it for parts I decided to have a go at it for two reason’s,this would be my first U.S. veh. and I was’nt gonna let that [censored] cat win.

I had to scratch a new wire cutter,I think the cat ate it, and the front wheel’s had been broken off by the above mentioned feline also so I reattached them with a slight turn.I also replaced the glass for the windshield with some vacuform packaging stuff. It’s more to scale than the kit supplied one.

The figure is from the kit with the addition of a Verlinden head and hand’s.The netting on the helmet is from an old holloween coustume. The ammo belt’s and ammo box’s are from the Acadamy US machingun set the rest is stuff from my part’s bin.

Gotta tell ya I really had fun with this little guy and I plan on picking up another one.

((WOW)) [:-,]all the detail and that weathering job is top notch. I hope my build of the Ford MUTT will come out as well (NOT!) my skill level is not that high yet., but you give me and otheres a lot of hope and some realy (MRP) - Magnificent Reference Photos. Thanks for sharing your work man.[#toast]

Hello panzerguy,

An exceptional save. panzerguy 1 : cat 0

I’ve thought about building this kit, or getting it for the stash pile. Looks fantastic. I like the turned wheels. I’ve been building the German jeeps, I’ve got one Tamiya Schwimmer, an Italeri Bucket built so far. I need to build 2 of each for the dios I have planned, so I’m taking turns. After that a lend-lease Seep, then a VW type87(the Beetle). Point is it will be in the stash for sometime before I get around to it.

The figure looks great, the verlinden head/hands look devastating.

Nice work! Thanks for Posting!

Best Regards,

I think the Tamiya Willys is a great kit for detailing and “piling on”. Great work there!

One thing that stood out to me would be the strapped on gasoline can at the left rear corner. If it were full, it’d be pretty darn heavy and given the nature of the tarp prop rods, probably warp them. If it were empty, the constant banging would drive me nuts if I were driving. I think I’d just toss it in the back. LOL: sorry if this is too nitpicky – my crazy mind goes to things like that!

Pile it on is right!!! Love the weathering. Nice detail on all the bags and equipment. Very nice build of a nice small kit. Details are great.

Thanks for sharing, you have a winner there. [tup]

PS…Also agree with T26E4…A full can is about 40 lbs, if it was full I’m sure it would be in the back, not hanging, but…it looks good. Sorry also…just anal I guess

Rounds Complete!!

Hey guy’s thank’s for the thumb’s up.

Redleg T26 thank’s for the feed back on the jerrycan ,it is supposed to be empty. But how is anybody but the driver gonna know that right lol.I think I might remove it and place it on the hood or place another strap going around it and through the grab handle underneath it. Agian thank’s these are exactly the kind of comment’s I look for.

Steve

Now that is one sweet jeep![bow] The stowage is probably some of the best looking that i’ve seen so far.[tup]

Great work, Panzerguy! [tup][tup]

Good thing the cat trashed your build…you might not have been as motivated to go completely nuts to score a “win”. [(-D]

I simply love it… Had the same kit a long time ago… but I didn’t really care for models… I’m 16 now, was maybe 9 at that time… So I ruined it… Didn’t go around to start serious modelling after 2 years ago…

Well, yeah… Great looking jeep. Stowage is nice, painting is nice, weathering is nice (Nice in my case means super duper awsomeness!) but got to say… the first thing I noticed is that his face looks rather… misfailed plastic surgeoun (insert spellingexpert here)…

Looks great. Far beyond my current armor-building capabilities. I think the figure looks great. Did it come with the cigar molded on or did you add it?

The only thing that I think looks less-than-real is the p/e barbed wire. It looks like… well… p/e barbed wire, too flat. maybe if you twisted the barbs up a little and/or wrapped a second piece in with it??? Not to be nit-picky, trust me. As a whole, it’s gorgeous!

You should be very proud, especially since it’s a save!

Wow, this is nice work…nice figure painting to boot! Just the right amount of weathering IMO…although I am not a huge fan of US vehicles I agree with the rest of you in writing that the Tamiya Jeep is a real gem of a kit that lens itself well to “looking pretty” when done up right…the Jeep just screams for extra stowage…I built one for a Battle of the Bulge vignette abd had a blast with it…one of the things my refs revealed was a common field mod that allowed the Jeep to hold more gear…it consisted of a simple bustle wleded to the back…no standard pattern…

Awesome build![tup]

So I guess cat’s are the new modeling tool in order to get battle damaged vehicles. I gotta get one. LOL[:D][:D]

Jadg 302, Dupes, Huxy, hannaman,Manny, Mg.mikael thank’s for the kudo’s and the feed back.

Now that I’ve taken the pics, did’nt have my camera during this build, and seen them on the screen I think I should have shaded the face a little more in some places. That’s one of the great thing’s about being able to take pic’s during your build the big screen really help’s to catch the little thing’s.The cigar was a last minute addition.

I agree that the barb wire look’s flat in the pic’s but at the normal viewing distance,I’m a studant of the Manstein school of photograghy[:-^],You really cant tell.

Manny I’ve been looking into some PE set’s for the next one and I will be adding the bustle rack.Have to say that I wasnt a big fan of US stuff either, but I’m starting to warm up to 'em.I plan on using this in a vignette with the Lt. walking into the brush holding a roll of TP.I’m calling it “Rear Guard”.

Now as far as that cat go’s let’s just say he is a tool and leave it at that

!http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/quarters/1975/spinstar.gifThis is just beautiful. You’ve done a really great job here… excellent!

mg.mikael…

if 'ya want a cat… here 'ya go!

DISASTERMASTER

Have to say that you definitely put one over on that feline. This build turned out beautiful!!! I love the german helmet hanging off the front, very cool touch. The weathering is top notch also.

With results like this maybe I need to add a cat to my workbench…

WOOHOO PG… that loksk great. Jeeps sure do look good piled with stuff and you did a great job on the “stuff”

great looking jeep the figure and stowage are perfect and really give this one character, awesome work.

Awsome jeep, the stowage looks great. Glad you were able to save it.

Just out of curiousity, how does that kit compare to the other Tamiya 1/4 ton? There’s a couple sittin’ on the shelf at my LHS… I have several of the others (kit # 35015-800, MM series No. 15 with 4 figures) but this kit is a bit more pricey… Is it a later, more accurate release? The fit on my kits was pretty bad in the hood/windshield/panel area and the decals were splintered…
