Firstly I know that MM and Pollyscale make exact(close to exact) matches for OIF armour.
However I can’t get MM or Pollyscale in my country, have to order on the net and would prefer to use a brand that I don’t have to wait for, for 2 weeks.
Therefore would it be more accurate to mix XF-57 Buff with white or XF-59 Desert Yellow with white for US Armour in OIF?
Or what about mixing XF-57 with XF-59?
I’ve noticed in some photos, M1s look pale and then others look a lot like XF-59.
I’m no expert, but i would say to mix a small bit and test spray to match your photo references. Check out "Toadman’s " tank pictures site; he has a gallery on some OIF. Some M1’s in Iraq, too.
My suggestion would be to lighten Desert Yellow (XF-59) significantly!!! With white and pehaps a touch of deck tan for a beached out effect. Photos show great variation in the fading of this color. My firsthand seeing of vehicles in this paint is that they fade out quite a bit over time. If it looks right after you mix it, it probably is.
