Tamiya StuG. IV 1/35 - FINISHED!

Hello everyone,

First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!!

Just started this built, a StuG. IV from Tamiya. Sprayed the model in a RAL8012 oxide red primer. After it is dry is spray the model with some chipping medium followed by a basic layer of dunkelgelb.

Update #1

There are some black spots on some of the pictures, but this is due some kind of dirt stuck between the phone housing and lens. Gonna take pictures with another phone next time!!

Greetings Marco

Chipping medium tells me you intend to show lots of the red oxide showing through. I would advise to only do a spartan amount – it’s easily overdone, in my opinion. Also consider the location of the chipping would mostly be where the crew climbs on or grabs areas of the StuGIV. Usually, that’s up the glacis in front of the driver. The crew hatches. The two rectangular brake hatches (they needed daily adjustment), the engine hatches (for fuel top off and general maintenance), the leading edges of the fenders and bottoms of the shurzen. Don’t overdo the shurzen – they are flimsily hooked on – a huge scratch would have simply knocked the thing off.

Don’t chip areas that wouldn’t get battered – I see people put a chipped edge on the inside of some panel that never gets touched. That simply doesn’t make sense to me. Best of luck to you!

Looks good, what brand did you use for the primer.

I agree with Roy on the chipping, not a big fan of lots of it, people seem to think brushing a tree will remove lots of paint.

Hey guys, thnx for the info. Didn’t want to chip the StuG too heavy, but i needed to apply a primer, so why not the original color :P. I used the rotbraun primer from Vallejo. Thanks for the tips T26, gonna follow your advice for chipping!! Do you have some good reference pictures of a chipped StuG? Gr Marco

Thanks, didn’t realise Valejo did that.

Looking good will be watching.

I’m certain this one will look great.

Hey guys,

Had some work done on the wheels and schurzen this evening. Did some streaking on the schurzen, because i’m thinking about leaving one of the schurzen in the primer color, like it has been replaced in the field or something.

Gr Marco

Looks cool! Looking forward to more.

Coming on nicely.

Hello,

Started doing some work on the tools and the cement block yesterday. Also did a little experimenting with the MIG scratching effects on one of the armor plates i wasn’t going to use anyway due too the excesive damage on the bottom of the plate (it snapped while i was bending it).

See you on the next update!

Gr Marco

Nicely done on the panel after the rest is done and all weathered it will look awesome.

Hello everyone,

Got some work done on the upper hull yesterday. Still needs work!!

Ser you on the next update!!

Gr Marco

Very nice work. Really like how the chipping came out, not over done but effective.

Coming along nicely!

Ditto! The chipping is soooo easy to over do, love how she’s looking so far.

Hey guys,

Got the lower hull done yesterday. Also fixed two ejector pinmarks that i missed and saw after posting yesterdays pictures (head cussion on the commanders hatch, still need to paint it in black/grey, and on the back of the MG shield). Next step is to paint the plate armor and the wheels, apply the decals and i’m considering doing a overall brownish filter to tone down the yellow a bit.

I didn’t chipped the lower hull as much, because most of the hull is protected by the armor plates and didn’t get chipped as easily, did some more chipping on the front where the spare tracks are going to be. Attached the armor plate that i’m not going to use just for the picture!

See you on the next update!

Gr Marco

Thats looking really nice Marco, chipping is very well done.

Cool, I wish I could get my stuff to look anywhere near this good.

Hey guys,

Got all the wheels and schurzen painted yesterday and did a brown filter on the vehicle (still need to do a filter on the schurzen), also started weathering the vehicle. The muffler isn’t finished yet, need to apply some rust tones and then paint it yellow and chip most of the paint away. Next step is to finish up the weathering!
