Tamiya Pzkfw IV Ausf J (#35262)

Anyone have any thoughts on this kit? Is it worth the price? I have never used PE zimmerit. Is it a reasonable representation of the real thing? I can find no feedback on this kit. Thanks!

Russ

It’s a very detailed kit. It will go together without a hitch, being Tamiya and all. It doesn’t come with the Thoma schurzen shields though. As for the zimmerit, you really don’t need it as they were produced up to the wars end. The PE zimmerit isn’t that detailed I’m afraid. You could try Cavalier resin zimmerit, they are excellent or fabricate your own out of putty. As for the price, check out ebay or one of the onlines. Good luck.

I think the late version J without the zim will require you to shave off one of the return wheels and relocate another one. Its worthiness will depend on how much you will be paying for it. a J on ebay can go around 20 bucks on average and the eduard zim that release version comes with is about 10. I have the etched brass PE zim for my panther G early and like tigerman said, they dont look as good as the resin ones nor the homemade jobs. Cavalier resin zim (which include a gun manlet if I am not wrong) is around 15. Also even though the kit itself is nicely done, some have always found themselves bothered by the rubber band vinyl tracks it comes with, which makes it harder to do the track sag that you tend to see on panzer IVs. That might require you to get aftermarket replacements or get some plastic indys from other member here who has spares from the dragon kits. Hope those info helps.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input.

I would go for the Shanghai Dragon kit!! It comes with the Thoma Shurzen that you have to make on your own, indie links and from my references on the Panzer IV it built up to be quite accurate! I made my own zimm out of slow drying Squadron Green… It was the first model I built since I came back to modelling three years ago… here’s a look at it if you need to know what the Dragon kit looks like…

again this is my first since comming back, but it gives you the idea of what the dragon kit looks like this is completely box stock except for the barrel…

Here’s mine of that exact kit.

Hello,

I’m working on this kit right now.I didn’t care for the PE Zim.I’ve been debating on zimming it or not.

You wouldn’t have to redo the return rollers to do it sans zim. They were produced without zim from Sept. 44 to Dec.44 with 4 return rollers. This according to Jentz-Dolye.

It wouldn’t be hard to redue the rollers but you wouldn’t have to to stay accurate. If you did go for the later version with three rollers you’d need to go with the later mufflers also. That to according to Doyle- Jentz.

As far as the price I do what Tigerman does…Ebay baby!!I got mine shipped for about $23.

Nice score Andy! How’s that dio coming?

I saw a comparison between the Dragon and Tamiya kits in an Military Modeller. Tamiya won hands down. The Dragon kit does offer the schurzen and indies though, which would save on AM and they both build up into nice Pz IV J’s in the end. Your pic friend. The Dragon kit would be much cheaper to get.

Nice builds James and Cowboy.

Ah, the dios…

I’m devoting the month of July to getting down and painting figures to finish up acouple dios.I’m having a painters block on figgys lately so I’m gonna jump in!!!

And those are some nice builds there guys!!

I’ve been super lucky on evilbay lately, just gotta be patient!!

Was thinking about building that kit and have the Cavalier zimmerit as well but when I opened up the zommerit package all the thin pieces were in great shape but the large pieces were horribly warped. Very disappointing. :frowning:

Perhaps you can soak them in warm water or something. Maybe try a strong 2 part epoxy. I was pretty impressed with mine. A good, but rather spendy alternative.

I normally use a blowdryer to unwarp my resin… on low setting works fine, with a little patience

Sir,

Can you tell me if the Tammya kit 35262, Pz. IV, Ausf.J with the Eduard zimmerit, has rubber strip tracks or indy tracks?? I can’t get an answer from the company.

Thanks!

same one piece vinyl tracks as what was included in the ausf J itself. aside from newer 1/35 kits like the char I bis, famo, and all, only their [relatively] newer tiger I kits come with indy tracks together with the old 250s. Can’t count the universal carrier.

of course there is also the optional indy tracks for the panther G and KT.
