Tamiya Panther A Questions

I’m ordering a 1/35 Tamiya Panther A for my fiance.(She picked this tank for an Operation Overlord Group Build).I don’t know the kit number, but Squadrons stock number is TM35065.Does this kit come with skirts/schurzen?If not,I’ll pick up some PE for the kit. Also, are indy links available for this kit?I couldn’t find any on Squadron’s site.

Thanks

Ed

This has pictures of the kit contents and instructions:

I don’t see any side skirts.

There are indy tracks by Modelkasten, Friulmodel, and some other companies for the Panther A but I’m not sure if they will fit that particular kit as it is pretty old.

Hi there,

It is strictly a matter of preference of course, but, I would buy something else, this is the old Tamiya Panther, and while good for its day, it is dated. I would save my money on AM for this kit. The inaccuracies are an issue, ( missing an entire bank of roadwheels) and there are the excellent Dragon A models out there at bargain prices that are packed with goodies (magic/indy Track, etc.)

If you want to keep your fiance, I would dump the Tamiya idea[:D]. Also, did you consider zimmerit?, A models for an Overlord scenario should be portrayed with zim, so be prepared to make some purchases in either resin or putty.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a basic entry level no frills ([zzz]) OOB Panther, and are not concerned with accuracy, hey the Tamiys kit is fine. As far as the Schurzen go, you can make a set for yourself out of Plasticard, they are just rectangles.

I concur with Steve. If your fiance wants a reasonably accurate model, avoid the Tamiya Panther A. However it builds up adequately. But really – the best thing about it is the box art.

The kit is missing road wheels?Anybody got a pic of this? The little lady is a beginner.I try to pick good entry level kits for her.

I’ll make you a deal, if you can type in Tamiya Panther A into the forum Search feature on this board…I won’t have to spend forever telling you the same information that has been posted about this kit 1000 times, and you will learn everything you need to know.

Steve

wow

I have no pictures but I have built the Tamiya Jagdpanther which basically shares most part with the Panther A and the problem is that the kit provides you with only two layers of roadwheels for each side. The real thing has three layers of overlapping roadwheels.

If you really want a Panther A kit, get the Dragon one or if you just want a good starter kit for the lady, try Tamiya’s other kits like the M4 Sherman, T-34, Panther G, Panzer 3/4, etc.

It has three layers of road wheels. Tamiya just cheated and didn’t double the middle row.
