Tamiya P47 Finished

Here a are couple of shots. Sorry for the quality, not like my B17 I had earlier. Didnt have access to my camera guy and his studio I usually use. I know the antennae is not on fuse behind canopy, and tanks are apparently not right style, and control surfaces on wing should be same shade. Just testing Alclad. Used Alclad. Enjoy.

Very nice build! CLean lines, and nice decal there on the nose.

Thanks. Decal was a witch. Lots of cuts between colors. Its on display in my local hobby shop in their glass display cabinet. Im proud. Try to get some better pics soon. Thats one of my fav verses by the way.

Nice, clean build. Maybe a bit too clean. Could benefit from a little panel enhancement IMHO.

Regards, Rick

No prob. I was going to do that as I usually build factory fresh ones. Had a bad lot of Alclad, was a bear to wear with. Tony from Alclad replaced the bad stuff and I didnt want to take a chance on what I had already accomplished.

I can sympathize with the not wanting to risk a good looking model. The ailerons and flaps are fine, I’ll testify that they were built with a different batch of aluminum.

Nice P-47!

Very nice looking P-47.

Nice Jug ther jamalone. You have to love a checkered nose P-47. I think it looks nice with the clean finish. I finished my Tamiya Razorback clean also. It looked to nice to dirty it up. I would leave it alone. Replacement ship just issued to a frontline unit! Keep up the nice work.

Thanks to all for comments. It was fun. Now off to finish a Mustang in “Daddy’s Girl” livery for our local model shop group build. Its the old Revell kit 1/48th. Any tips on how to avoid sanding the rivets off the top of the nose cowl/seam area and any other “trouble” spots?

Thanks again. As always constructive criticism is welcome.

I like it a nice clean build.

Nice job!

Nice looking P-47. Except for getting a bad batch, you have a good handle on Alclad. Great stuff.

Smart looking T-bolt! Your Alclad looks great from here. I built that same version a couple of years ago, and remember what a bear the checkerboards were. You did a great job with 'em!

Looking really nice, jamalone. I’d doing a Razorback now, and in the future I’d like to do a bubbletop. Yours is inspiring.[tup]

veryr sharp looking bird. I am working on the same kit right now, and have been debating on using the checker board decals. Seeing yours does make me want to use them just a bit more!!

Thanks for sharing,

Matt

Jamalone, she looks nice! I’m building the same version and would appreciate any tips you might have on applying the checkerboard decal.

Be very careful! I started with the top part and lined it up there and worked down. Use lots of water to be able to slide it around and position. I found if I used microset first it actually hindered the moving of decal. My gloss coat underneath was future. After is was down, I brushed microset and let dry while rubbing slightly with moist qtip to insure adhesion. You will most likely have to slice (from back to front about the 10 and 2 oclock positon if looking dead on at prop from front) decal along white/black lines to work out wrinkles and to get it to lay flat. After completing entire cowl this way (making sure it dries for a day) I then brushed on solvaset (dont let any get on future or finish as it will mess it up, ask me how I know) and let dry. I did mine in my paint booth with a couple of halogens so it was warm and that helped drying.

Again be very slow and deliberate, if you get in a hurry you will mess it up. This kit has been discontinued I understand so replacement factory decals are 12 weeks out if you can get them.

I didnt want to pay $40 for another kit just for decals, but you could get aftermarket ones I guess.

Hope this helps. Thanks for the comments.

Aaron

Thanks Aaron. I knew going into this project that this decal could make or break the model for me. Your tips will be a big help I’m sure.

No prob. I dreaded them too. But the thought of a green nosed p47 didnt appeal to me either. The decals are really first class as far as fit.
