Tamiya P-51B "Shngri-La" - Completed

Well I can add this beauty to my list of completed kits for 2005. I know everybody has heard plenty about the fit of the Tamiya kits and I must agree that they are awsome.

I pre-shaded the panel lines with tamiya OD paint and then filled the panels with Color of Eagles(CoE) Faded OD. The underside was painted with CoE Neutral Gray and the red on the nose was revell color red. After the future was applied I used the kit decals with a bunch of micro-set and a bit of Testors decal solvent and was able to get the decals to sit down nicely in most areas.

I used the Eduard PE set on this one, most of which is in the cockpit, to include the radio rack and also added wiring inside and fuel lines from the tanks to the wings.

After decaling I used a enamel wash of approx. 80% thinner and 20% flat black to bring out the panel lines rivets etc. A bit of pastel chalk powder was used for the exhaust stains and gun blast markings. All in all, I think that I spent only 40 hours putting this one together.

Here are the pics.

Any and all comments, critiques are more than welcome.
Thanks for looking

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
Matt

FANTASTIC is all i can say

Hey Matt…that’s a great looking Stang. The markings are very cool. Nice job on the weathering.

Jerry

Very nice Stang Matt. The accent of the panel lines came out great. Well done [tup].

Very nicely done. That CoE paint is awesome, and I like the effect of the standard OD under the faded paint…subtly nice. Also you got the decals to settle in really nice. A tip a friend of mine pointed out to me a while back was to use a fresh blade and slice the decals that lie in the panel lines. Then go over with a miniscule drop of Micro-Sol to hold it down, and it looks like the decals were painted on. But either way, that is truly a smashing 'Stang. You should be very proud.

Very nicely done Mustang! I love the use ofthe faded OD green and regular ODgreen.

Very very nice.

Ill echo what everyone else is saying… nice work. One suggestion. Paint the glass pieces first the color of the interior, then the exterior color… makes it more realistic.

Very nice…some would say…“What? ANOTHER P-51?”…but not me…IMHO, the P-51 was one of the most beautiful airframe shapes that has ever been made…
I like the faded effect on the panels…nicely done, overall.
Just make sure you do cut the decals along panel lines and hit them with Micro-Sol…THEN do your panel line wash…
I like it, mate. Thanks for sharing.

Matt once again you do not fail to impress… she is a real beauty.

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful coments!! I did try to cut and seal the decals in the panel lines, guess that my blade wasnt new enough. Normally i do paint the glass with the interior color but since I mixed the color and forgot to paint it when I had the paint I just painted the exterior color on both sides.

I really am proud of this kit, cant say enough about how nice it fit together even with the Eduard PE set added in.

Thanks again for all the coments and complements and have a great New Year!!! [swg]

Looks great, Matt! The panel lines and weathering came out super.
