Tamiya modified Command Panzer III, 3rd SS Division-Kharkov *PICS*

awsome tank there manstein, about your base, i been eyeballing that one “break through” i think its called, how did it go together, and what issues? back to the tank looks good and looks like you put good effort into it [tup]

…that’s cool…in fact, now that you mention it I may turn it into a dio and blend the tank and base more together…[;)]

…thanks, the dio base is resin and comes in only three pieces you have to CA or epoxy together…it is actually called: “City Street Section.” The “Breakthrough” base is a complete arch and I have seen that one as well, but haven’t bought it…I have always had good results with their products (VLS), although I tend to think they sometimes try to cram too much garbage onto their bases (ammo, shells, crates, helmets, etc…)…in fact, my most recent base from them was modified to take some of this random junk off the street (cut off)…I also added some more bricks and rubble, covering some of these areas where the random debris items were…here is the base about 65-70% complete:

…after making my own changes, I primed the base first with flat black, then panzer grey, and then layed in some general coloring: dark brown for the debris and hole in the street, and light grey for the brick areas of the walls…that’s when I switched to brush painting…each brick you see was individually painted…the brick wall sections were first painted white, then the areas were dry-brushed with a brick color, leaving the white depressed areas as mortar…any more questions on technique I will gladly answer…

Great potential here as many have allready stated Manstein’s revenge.
And a very good hand to.
Still I agree with the Doog and would like to add;
Forget the dio for a moment and look at the tank.
Your effort goes in 2 directions, accurate whitewash and undercarriage.
When you blend them togehter you will have a top notch kit.

cool because like i said i have been lookin at the bases but dont no much about them

…buy one and give it a try; they aren’t nearly as difficult to paint as you might think…most of my bases are finished with only 4 to 5 additional colors over the primer…and I use mostly cheap acyrilics…just takes patience and a lot of dry-brushing…once the painting is done, a good oil wash and then sealed with dullcoat…

…the pre-molded dio bases take a lot less time than scratch-built ones; the only down-side is that you have to fit the theme of your dio around the base…I usually scratch around half of my bases and buy pre-molded bases the other 50% of the time…

Great build! Thanks for posting your great work.

…looking forward to posting much more…photographing of the dios has been especially fun for me…one of the things I have always enjoyed about shows is getting feedback…in this forum you can get it any time you want by posting work…

Feedback is great when delivered sensibly. People can actually learn something and improve no end, by listening to others with more experience. The worse sort of critisism would be to tell a new modeller to scrap their creation and try again.

Keep up the good work Manny.
