I’ve been attempting to get the color by mixing since nothing in the standard XF line seems a good match. Best result so far is XF-24 Dark Grey with a lot of White plus a dash of XF-21 Sky. Does anyone have a formula that works for them?

I really wish Tamiya would come out with mix formulas that matched the FS paint colors. Or even better would be if they just came out with the paints already matching the FS colors. I mean seriously, how hard would it be?
I don’t know the answer to your question but in my experience Tamiya paint is bluish.
Light Gull Gray is a warmish gray. I use the Testors straight up and like the match- looks right to me.
I guess if I were to try to mix it from Tamiya, I’d use black, white and a little yellow.
One important thing to know about mixing colors is that it’s usually a better idea to mix darker colors to lighter colors. So in this instance, if you’re mixing white to a darker grey…you’re going to use (waste) more paint trying to find the color you want. It’s almost always going to work better to set aside a certain amount of white and slowly add your darker color. If you’re looking to make it somewhat warmer/cooler, continue to add your extra color a little bit at a time keeping in mind that the lighter the color the more it will take.

Appreciate all the help everyone. Looks like I’m good to go with white plus XF-19, and I’ll probably try a drop of earth or red to warm it up. Like Gmorrison said, I find Tamiya’s grey tones to be cool, as in bluish rather than warm. I have a bottle of Testors 16440 for comparison, but it’s funky and won’t spray well, and that’s what started this. For me, Tamiya is a local item but Testors MM line is an online order, and I’m trying to overcome Compulsive Stash Disorder.

Dark or light gull grey? I’ve got an app for that…I can give you a ratio…just need to know which one you’re after.
An update…
Went by my LHS and picked up a bottle of XF-80 Royal Light Gray and did some muddling with white, red and light green. Also tried the XF-19 + White that the chart Phil_H linked indicated. The winner, at least in my eyes, is the tinted XF-80 with a small dash of XF-76 IJN Grey Green. Light Gull Grey is an very interesting color, a warm grey toned down with blue-green plus tint for scale and I guess there are many possible interpretations. In a month or so, I’m looking forward to a visit to the Naval Air Museum in Pensecola, Fl with my Dad (see avatar), so I’ll get to see Gull Grey up close.

According to my app Dark Gull Grey can be had with a 1:1 mix of XF-80 and black. I can’t get light gull grey using xf-80…at least not with three colors (which is the apps limit)…
A link to this thread was on a Google search and boy howdy am I glad I found it. I’ve had the paint4models link on my desktop for ages. But the IPMS Tamiya mix guide… that’s going to come in handy. And very soon. The reminder about the iModelKit app which I could never use… droid guy… is timely too. My wife got an IPhone 6 recently (I’m a droid guy) so there’s an old 4 just waiting to become the newest tool on my bench.
