Tamiya Mig

About done with the 1:48 Mig from Tamiiya. I know I sound like a Tamiya employee but once again, their kits are incredible. Pieces fit together, instructions are reasonable, and great detail. The jet engine on this is really nice and I decided to display it in half using the yellow dolley. Looks really good bnext to the F86 I finished. The only downside I would say is the sensitivity of the silver plating. Any glue in the seams wears it off and the seams are evident. I am looking for something to kind of fix up the white edges, anybody have any idea for what could be used in small spots to blend in with the siolver plate finish? Other than that, a spectacular model.

I saw a post earlier about a Tamiya 1:48 B17. Boy, we could be so lucky. I would love to have a B17 in my collection but the offerings that are out there leave so much to be desired, in my opinion of course.

I think the most suitable paint to fill the job is Tamiya’s own Enamel Chrome Silver paint. I haven’t tried it tho. I will check when I get home.

Alclad II would do the job too. Speaking of which, I personally don’t think the chrome plated versions are worthwhile. Any nicks on the plating is a pain to touch up and of course you have seems. Alclad or any other natural metal finish system is better than chrome plated plastic in my opinion.

The Tamiya B-17 rumour’s been floating around for ages. It’s just that, a rumour. The Monogram B-17 is not that bad. It makes up to a fairly good model. The fit is not Tamiya quality of course. Besides, the B-17 had huge rivets and overlapping panels so raised panel lines with lots of rivets is more accurate than recessed panel lines in which case there really isn’t any need for a new tool B-17.
