Tamiya masking tape on finishes

Hey everybody, I have another quick question:Does Tamiya masking tape peel off cleanly even with a coat of enamel applied? Will it harm the paint where the tape was put down to mask? I’m painting a Stuka and want to paint the entire upper surface a base then come back, mask the other areas where the other color acts as the camo. Will that work?

Over

Tamiya masking tape has always worked well for me and has never lifted a previous layer of paint. I think it is the best out there and feel confident to say I don’t believe you will have any problems with it. This is bearing in mind also, that I use mainly Acrylics which have a reputation for lifting if tape is too tacky, so with enamels you should have no problems with Tamiya at all.[tup]

Cheers …Snowy.

Tamiya tape should be fine.

Here is something else I do at times to remove extra tackiness from the tape:
Stick the tape to your t-shirt till you need it.

Alternatively you can also use artists masking tape from the arts supply store, this is also a good low-tack option but won’t lay as nicely around corners as the Tamiya Tape will.

Iv’e never had a problem with Tamiya tape over enamels. Never tried it on acrylics. Be careful on metallic finishes, however, as they require very delicate masking. Don’t think putting tape on your T-shirt to reduce adhesion is a good idea becuase it could pick up some fibers on the edges which may show up on your paint edge after masking.

This guy put me onto it, and i don’t think that his paint finishes suffered from it.

He does some outstanding work. [8D]

Hey madmodel, he does do outstanding work, but those are anime figures. I was thinking of the nice straight edge you need for German Splinter Camo. Maybe it’s because here in frigid Michigan we wear flannel T-shirts.

We got those too on anime figs, masking is masking doesn’t matter what the subject is. [;)]

Not sure about flannel, never had a problem with 100% cotton t-shirts.

Just stick the tape to your forehead until you are ready…unless you have an extremely linty or dry forehead (or concerned about looking like a fool) that should work too. [:o)]
