Hey guys, I love the m577 (I really just like anything command[tup] version) and just ordered a couple of the tamiya 1/35 M577’s. I want to model a current M577 Im going to do a Non-combat AO in 3 color nato, and then an OIF version circa 2003 invasion. What basic exterior improvments should be made to update it a bit I probably will do an interior as well and have found some great photos on Prime portal, if anyone can give me some insight on this I would appreciate it I know the Tamiya M577 is probably a 70’s version so I need to bring it up to date thanks.
hereThe latest version is the M1068A3. It has a totally different generator and a power distrobution box, along with other power items on the interior. The type used during OIF 1 was either the M577A2 or M577A3. The A2 and A3 look basically the same as the Tamiya kit, but with a different engine grill layout and new exhaust. Internally, the A3 also has a steering yoke as opposed to laterals like an M113. You can see my recent M577A2 build to give you an idea on what to change. Also check out Prime Poirtal for some great M577 and M1068 walkarounds.
Thanks Gino, I knew you were the guy to count on for modern armor thanks again.
We should all pool our money and get Heavy Arty a consulting job about modern scale models. There is nothing he doesn’t know!
Thanks for the props, but I wouldn’t go that far. I am just familiar with the vehicles I work with. That and a little research will get you far. Good luck on your M577 builds.
I wish I had been able to work with more armor when I was in the service, but I just remember they werent worth much more then exhaust and dust makers on long road marches.
Most '77 's I remember always had a 3 gallon “Igloo” type cooler lashed to the right rear below the tailghts. Water for coffee, or ice(!) when we could get it! Of course the coolers were painted o.d.!!
We piled lots of native brush on top (and cleverly attached to the sides) along with spare .50 cal. cans and armor (road wheels etc.). The skirts came off for almost everything but fording through water…
Good little vehicle, the 113 series. Almost a perfect deer camp, the 577 variation.
