Good looking start. Looking forward to your next instalment

Thanks! I appreciate it! I am having a good time!

Looking good. Are you going to do a diorama or a particular theme with the tank?

I suppose it must be the Tamiya 35190. A good model, with no assembly issues. If you invest a little more to replace the tracks and add some resin details, it becomes sensational.

Monitoring the progress of your assembly.

I am not looking to add on stuff just yet. Going to ‘get back into it’ so to speak, you know relearn stuff, before I add on extras.

Just the basic models right now. I have to learn about figures before I tackle a dio.

Decided to scrap the figures, early Tamiya with no detail and sill expressions. Decided to prime the lower hull and do some detail to the treads. Any experts know when/if/why the fender arraignment on the Shermans was removed? I see pictures of them in the field and they lack the fenders. . .should I add them or no?

The tanks came out of the factories equipped with fenders, or more accurately, sand shields. Their primary purpose is to cut down on dust signature when moving. But they interfered with routine maintenance of the suspension and tracks, so crews usually removed them and left them off.

Thanks! I might put them on though. If I do a later version with them off, they will look quite different.

I like to find a photo of a vehicle and base my builds off of what is seen in the photo. If the tanks has whatever set up, I like to replicate that look as best I can. The same kit can often be built multiple ways following that guideline. Sometimes with what comes in the box, sometimes some aftermarket items may be needed to make changes.

For example, one of the markings options in your kit can be done in at least 2 different configurations and schemes… when deploying to Normandy

and after a certain amount of time fighting in Normandy, repainted into a new camouflage scheme

Good call on the build of the Sherman.

Good observations @stikpusher!

@Mac170, the best practice is always to use a reference photo, it helps us make the work closer to reality.

Over time, we gain more experience and the techniques improve, making the work faster and easier.

Waiting for new images of your assembly.

Looking at some You Tube videos on assembly of the Sherman I see some good ideas. Of course, I didn’t follow any of them! I am quite sure this will not be the only Sherman I build, and the next will certainly be the one, or as close as I can come to it, of the Sherman my uncle; “Got a lift back to the company on a tank! Boy, those things are big! There were five of us on top, but we had more room than the fellas inside!”

All primed in black. No pictures, I mean, it’s just black!

Sorry, I haven’t been here much. Between, some issues with arthritis in my hands and really nice weather, I have been busy! I do have the decals on the Sherman, and a coat of gloss on the whole thing. Final assembly and some detail painting coming up.
