Tamiya Leo1A5DK

I haven’t posted any work in a while so I thought I’d throw this one up, something just completed. I was inspired by a couple of other builds in magazines and decided to try something completely new for me, a tank in UN white. I had the kit and just needed the Legends conversion to get the updates and Danish-specific parts. I even had some old Spade Ace tracks on hand.
The Legends conversion is designed for the Meng kit but credit to Tamiya here, everything fit except the nicely detailed mantlet dust cover. I added a pair of containers behind the smoke grenade launchers but other than that it was a complete conversion. I imagine the Meng Leo kit has those parts in it. I did add a bunch of weld beads absent from the Tamiya kit on the hull and turret, pic below:

A good coat of Vallejo NATO green served as primer and a spot check for flaws..

Followed by Tamiya white from a can:

After a couple of days to cure, I applied decals, clean and then it got a pin wash, clear and an overall wash using Tamiya panel liner, then Vallejo black acrylic wash.

Wanting to depict a tank that has traveled a mixture of dirt and broken up tarmac roads, I used gray and dark earth pigments, several layers and applications, some Vallejo “wet effects” and AK pigment fixer to show wet and dry deposits.
As finished:

I’ve always heard it’s good to stretch now and then and that’s what this was for me, the first time I’ve ever tried to weather something white. It was a bunch of fun once I committed, enough that a Tamiya Leclerc in UN white is in line.

Are the decals from the Legends conversion set? Good looking ‘white’ UN tank.

Thanks all.
Decals came from various sources, some Echelon, some Accurate Armour, some from my spares box. The Echelon set that had everything I needed on one sheet is OOP and made from unobtanium.

I’ve always been partial to the earlier Leopard 1’s. They always had great NATO forest or winter camo schemes, so this ‘desert’ colored vehicle looks great. The color reminds me of my Iraqi T-72 Russian tank. Nice work.
