Tamiya King Tiger Repainted (pics)

Looks great. Nice job on the painting and weathering!

Excellent repaint, Dwight!

Wow! Dwight is a model-making machine!

And your stuff always has a real air of authenticity to it – looks very true. Congrats on another nice model.

Looks great Dwight!

Looks great Dwight!! Excellent job on the repaint and the build looks good too!

Eric

Thanks for the compliments guys. I never really thought that lots of you would like the re-paint job.

Dan: No those are posed as they came from the kit. Those are from Dragon.

Ed: I always use acrylics so stripping is not a problem. Alcohol (or acetone for really very durable paint) does the job quite well. I sanded the decals off. The new markings are just hand painted. Actually it also had bigger leaves/spots that it has now but the camo guide I downloaded showed really small ones.

Kennneth: I originally used Tamiya Dark Green (IJN) for the dark green color and it is much darker and bluish than the normal Tamiya Dark Green so the model looks too small and it doesnt look right after weathering. It is only some months back that I was able to get the normal Tamiya Dark Green so I repainted my Panther G and now the King Tiger.

Actually, this is the last model that requires repainting because of incorrect colors used. Hopefully I will not be coming out with another repainted model again. [;)]

I am back on the Shermie Build Project now and I think I can finish it by Sunday and post it here on Monday.

Thanks again guys.[:D]

I had to take a second peek at this marvelous repaint job…marvelous!

I can’t wait to see your M51… if I am lucky, my M50 will turn out half as good!

With much respect…Dan

Thank you again, Dan but I still say that you are an excellent modeler. Your M-50 looks great. In fact, your fitter and other desert camo models are very good. I need to learn how to handle those pastel chalks for weathering. I think they are the best medium for desert finishes because of the dull and powdery texture.

To tell you the truth, I haven’t used pastels yet either…I’m hoping that one day that it will be another type of weathering I can employ naturally without hesitation.

Regards, Dan

Splendid job, Pareng Dwight! Couldnt tell that it was a repaint. Love the way you did the tracks, most of al. And the infantry figures were a nice touch, too. Galeng (Great)!

It looks great, a nice blend of colours [:)]

Really nice work Dwight! I really got to get me an airgun!!

DDT:
u r a wizard with an airbrush !

[#ditto] outstanding!

Looks terrific, Dwight. You have a very “fine” hand with the airbrush!! Come and teach me! lol

I keep coming back to check it out, Dwight! I love it!
I may have to pay you a licensing fee to let me finsih my 1/16 Tiger II like yours!

That is very cool wish i was that good.

Lotsa folks don’t realize that late in the war the greys started to come back into the camo scheme … the green seemed to disappear very odd ! Just a matter of using what they had at that point I guess but anyways very nice repaint dwight I always loved the tiger 2!

Guys, thank you very much for all the nice words. I am realy surprised to see this thread pop up again.

J-hulk: Not necessary my friend. Here is the pic from where I based my scheme. Actually my blue is much darker (after weathering) than what is shown here in the ref pic. My yellow is also a lot lighter.

Funny thing I noticed. When I cleaned up the background…I accidentally erased the antenna of the tank. LOL.

Again thanks to all.
