Tamiya German Mortar Team

Here’s Tamiya’s 1/35 German Mortar Team in action. I built this a few years ago shortly after my first Willie & Joe diorama. I didn’t include the standing commander figure because he just didn’t seem to be posed in a proper battlefield pose for a single mortar team.

The hedgerow and groundwork are from scratch. I added helmet bands and foliage to each of the soldiers, masking tape weapon slings and gas mask case straps, thread handles on the ammo boxes and a wire handle on the sight case.

Enjoy and thanks for looking! [:)]

Hay nice work! I was thinking of making somthing like that but now I’m really inspired[:D]

[bow]it seems that sets always have at least 1 guy that does not fit any way looks great

That looks great, senojrn. Very nice groundwork., hedge looks awesome.

Might be a fun dio idea to have all the “out of place” figures in one vignette, call it “Misfits”. Have them in a bar, or in a laundromat.

SteveM, I like the “Misfits” idea–that’d be interesting to build! Could be in the cafeteria of a Hollywood studio, with everbody still in costume; kinda like the last scene in Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles! [(-D]

Sweet vignette…I love the little hedgerow…one thing, I believe the shells should be a different color…overall, very nice work…

Thanks! For the mortar rounds, I just went with the illustrations from the side of the Tamiya box. What color should they be?

If I remember correctly the box art also shows them in red—I think those are practice rounds however…I would have just varied the color slightly from the color of the mortar to break up the colors a little—maybe more of a steel-grey to bluish-grey…great vignette!

Excellent work on the scratchbuilding! In this day of PE it is truly a temptation to build straight out of the box. Refreshing to see some “Old School” scratchbuilt stuff for a change.

Great Job!

That’s pretty good. The helmet straps and the slings make a real difference.
