Hello,
Have any of you guys come up with the correct or good enough color for modern US military in the desert using Tamiya acrylic bottle paints? It is the only paint I like to spray.

Closest is XF-59/TS-3 Desert Yellow, but I think it’s a couple shades too dark for Desert Sand… Works better for AFrika Korps… If you lighten the XF-59 with white to match Testor’s Model Master Modern Desert Sand, I think you’d be close, IMHO…
You will have to make a custom mix. Tamiya makes no matching color for either the 91 Gulf War, or current OIF Sand shades. However Polly Scale and Testors do make both colors in their paint lines.
As Stick said there is no direct match for either sand in Tamiya. For those situations I use Polyscale/ Testors Acrylic. They have matches for both along with other speciality colors like USMC Green.

im doing a huey cobra atm using desert yellow and buff, it may not be the right colour, but if all your desert camo schemes are done the same, whos gonna know?
Also, ‘new’ desert sand will look very little like a vehicle that has been in theatre for a couple years. Sun fading, sand, grime, oils, smoke, etc. Take a walk through a motor pool, sometimes it is hard to believe it’s even the same base paint color from vehicle to vehicle.
