Tamiya Flakpanzer pics

here are a few pics. Please tell me what you think

Jason

That looks really good. Only thing I see is that some of the roadwheels are not completely black rimmed, you can see in the last pic.
Good build

Looks good!

The tracks look to be off on the last pic.

Looks great. The camo looks tricky.

Great job on the build.

Nice clean build.I highly recommend a little shading and highlighting. On a kit like this the detail will leap out at you.

Very nicely painted camo.
Comments:

  1. Ammo cans in the turret were painted on the sprue and not retouched .
  2. Mold lines along the guns need to be cleaned up.
  3. Muzzles should be sanded flat and painted black or drilled out.
4 Ammo holders have not been painted.
  4. Sink hole on support wall near the right bank of guns.
  5. Glue marks where this connects with the turret.
  6. Gun sight is missing.
  7. Interior of wheels were not painted.
  8. Left side tracks aren’t connected at the idler wheel and are off the drive wheel.
  9. Wheels. too, were painted on the spru and not touched up after beiign cut off.

It definitely could use some dirtying up. A wash to bring out some of the details would help alot. The wheels could use some touching up. There’s some black overspray in spots and unpainted areas in others. Plus I don’t know if its the camera but the black looks very glossy. It is a nice job though, and some nice thin lines in the camo pattern.

I agree with the comments of the others, but it is a nice build.
I know it as a “Wirbelwind”, Is it a Tamiya kit…Kenny

Very nice build. The finish on the guns in particular is very dynamic. I would seriously consider giving the model a deep dark brown wash, as it will just make the details jump out. Now they just look like perfectly flat pieces of steel.

Al’s (ajlafleche) 10 points will add a good deal to giving your “Wirbelwind” a more finished look, and enhance for the most part, a very good job, especially the camo.
You’re on the right track, and hope you don’t take offense to criticsm, thats how we become better at our craft, by learning from others. As an example I would invite you to view my orginal thread on my Steyr 1500, and then to see the improvements that were made as a result of the critical feedback I received from our members. Nice airbrush work. I’d also tone down the equipment. The jacks and other tools weren’t left steel colored but painted dukelgelb like the AFV itself.

Also, the pattern of your airbrush camo is somewhat unrealistic in that it looks as if it were a painted model rather than a representation of a 12 high tank.

What I mean is this: when airbrushing, you aim and shoot a continual stream of paint to make your pattern – probably a few inches from the surface of the model. In reality a guy in dirty fatigues was climing over a tank with an airgun attached to an airhose, trying not to fall off. He would not have likely made 10 foot diameter continual camo patterns, does that make sense?

Try to look at the model from the perspective of a person standing next to it. Not as a “giant” hovering above who can shoot a stream across the entire length of the tank in one swipe. Just something to think about.

Thank you all, The wash and highlights I have yet to do, but you did point out alot of thing s that will help me, and I thank you for it. I did fix the track and plan on drilling out the gun barrells.
Ericadeane that is a intresting thing and the airburshing, Thank for the tip
Jason

Good job Jason, and when you take care of of the suggestions, you should have a nice looking wirbelwind. Good job on the camo, but I agree with ericadeane’s comments.

jay12472,
Can’t add anything to what has already been said. Al gave you some very good advice / critique.
You’ve done a good job and these are pretty much little things that will make a big difference in the quality of your build.
I agree with Mike. Don’t take offense at the comments. I’ve been on the short end of some too, but these people are very good and their advice is well worth taking to heart. They’ve helped me considerably.
You’ve done a job that you can be proud of. Just try and continue to improve your skills.
Joe

thanks Tiger and panther
I’ve takin no offense to anything said by anyone, I hope that these tips make me a better modler and thats all I ask
Jason

Here is a little-known variant of the Flakpanzer you might consider for your next build–the “Doppleflakpanzer”. enjoy.

Nice job on the camo–nothing I can really add that hasn’t already been said. I’m rather new at this myself.

I live in a sort of small town and the only place to buy models is longs drugs. They have only 2 tamiya kits, the wirblewind, and a stegosaurus.Glad to see the wirble wind turned out great.Very good job.
