Tamiya Ferrari FXX K

Tamiya 1/24th scale. I built the LaFerrari about 8 years ago and planned to build another one because of how nice the kit is; now I’m getting to it with this version.
One thing I recalled was the inner and outer door pieces require a significant amount of work before painting and the interior panels need to be painted along with the exterior parts. The outer doors are three pieces each due to the complex shape of them. This leads to some tedious sanding to eliminate the seams despite the excellent fit of those parts, and the inner door parts should be prepped differently being molded in black. I used Tamiya pink primer as a base. Last time it felt like an interruption of an otherwise smoothly going project, so this time I tackled those issues first.

The tailfins and cowling parts also have to be cemented on and faired in. No filler needed on any of these parts or the doors, I just sanded the glue smooth.

I’ve never built a Tamiya car kit, but anything of theirs that I have built went together rather seamlessly. This is looking pretty good. Is it a curb-side kit or does it have full engine etc?

This is a full detail kit with an engine. But not a lot of it is visible even with the opening rear cover.

These are all of the body parts that were painted LP-7 Pure Red. This paint/color is very user friendly.

The engine builds up easily; not sure how much will be visible when the car is done.

I built a car a few years ago that I put a strenuous amount of detail in, come to later find out that almost zero of it was visible after I was finished :joy: I wasn’t mad at all though because I had fun and it’s good practice regardless. Looks good so far bud!

At least with digital photography it doesn’t cost anything to capture those hidden details. I spent a few weeks making the best fire extinguisher I could and it is almost completely hidden in the car. But I know it’s there and I’m glad I put in the effort.

The brakes were done using the same technique as I used on the Aston Martin DBS.

Here’s a link of a How-To to achieve the same effect:

The interior, engine and chassis. Ready to start accepting body panels. So far everything fits very well.

The decals fit well, but the silver graphics/stripes are very fragile. Several of them broke while still on the paper even though they release rather quickly. The kit provides sections of silver decal for touch-up/repair and while they work well, from some angles the repairs are evident.

Finished. I built this primarily to see how the Tamiya LP-9 Clear Gloss worked over decals. (I know, a simpler kit would have been more logical.) In the end I’m very happy with the way the clear did not react with the decals.

That’s an eye catcher for sure!

Wow! Looking at these pics you couldn’t guess that it was not an all out effort. It looks like a brochure from the dealership. Congratulations!
