What are they and how do i order them? Someone posted they would look good on my Tamiya panther G and King Tiger. Is there a paritcular model# for these parts.
Tamiya makes PE screens that fit over top of the grills on the back of the tanks you mentioned. They were sort of debris screens found on the real thing. Go to www.greatmodels.com, and do a cross-reference on the tank you want and you will find the part numbers under the Tamiya products. Hope that helps
dont bother with the Tamiya deck screens, just get the Ader Photo etch set or Eduard PE set, the screens are in the set and theres other bits too
Yeah thats another way, especially if you want to do a lot of photoetch. The Tamiya would be good if you wanted to keep it simple.
That was me. Jon advised you to get the Aber kits or Eduard, but be forwarned they can be finicky to put together and Aber is expensive. I tend to take the quickest route and just go with the grilles which I feel have the most visual impact. Of course just MHO.
The engine deck screens are a great, simple and cost effective way to enhance your model. They average around $6 and are easy to use. Only get a complete photo etch set if you really want to get into it and add a lot of extra time and money to your project, it looks great but is not for everyone.
The thing that irks me about Tamiya grills is that Dragon includes PE grills in their kits (some kits). Tamiya makes you spend another $6-10 to add to a kit that should include them in the first place.
Sometimes the PE setsare cheaper or the same price as Tamiyas grill sets, and even if you dont use all the set and only the grills you still have the option
in some sets you get side skirts and mesh baskets
thats what gets me too
but they include the grills in there T72 and Marder 3m
its like its an after thought to get us to pay for them
Not only that, but in most of their newer releases, you get an aluminum barrel. That’s another $8-10 in savings.
All a product of the Japanese vs Chinese manufacturing/labor differences.
