Tamiya British SAS Jeep Vignette

Greetings Gentlemen: I thought I was almost done with my desert phase before diving into the main diorama and then NWM released their most excellent SAS Jeep crew and I was hooked.

If that wasn’'t enough they just released their next figure in the set and I was as lost as a young man and his first crush!

I was actually still resisting the images and the “story” in the head until Masterbox released the Commonwealth AFV crew with a 1/35th scale camel and I just decided to give in!

I picked up the Tamiya No. 303 Kit

And also the Legend SAS Jeep Conversion Set

The images in my head are very striking and I will try to tell a story about a SAS Patrol meeting a native camel rider in the deep desert. I will also have to learn how to model sand dunes which should be fun!

I will start assembling today so stay tuned…

Daaaayummm! Those NWM figures look stunning! The Kubel was sweet, but this should be down right awesome!

This should be amazing.

Schnoobs: You should know that the Legend SAS update set is not for the Tamiya SAS Jeep (70s era molding) but for the more recent Tamiya Willys MB Jeep kit (a modern kit).

Uhh Ohh he’s at it again…

G

Brian: Took me a minute to realize that was a drawled out swear word. I kept on asking myself what is Daaaayummmm? LOL! Thanks Brian I will try not to disappoint!

DM: Hey long time no type! I hope all is well my friend!

Eric: Thanks for the support Eric!

Roy: I saw that Roy but I purchased it mostly for the stowage. I love Legend stuff. I also have the Verlinden SAS Jeep Detail set as well so I should be able to sort out something.

Wayne: Did you doubt it? LOL!

Build Update: The Masterbox Commonwealth AFV Crew came in the post today and I already had the NWM Jeep Drivers so I thought I would take some pictures of the Spru. I was very impressed with the camel detail and the figure torsos but not so much with the heads. That’s why God gave us Hornet! Does anyone have any ideals on where I would find a turban head? I have a sneaking suspicion I will have to pick up a bald set of Hornet heads and make a turban out of Milliput!. The NWM figures are breath taking!

Nice opening round!

Thanks Rick!

I found a Desert Raider SAS Documentary that has bveen cut into five YouTube Videos and I have included the llnks for all five here in the WIP. Very informative and inspiring.

Due to the interest in the WIP I thought you guys might appreciate it.

Awesome Ed. A great opening and no doubt will be a great model and dio. I look forward to seeing you work your magic on this one. I am actually looking forward to the painting of the figs. Will you be painting them mainly in oils ???

Go Ed go.

Edmund,

I saw the listing of the kit with the camel the other day and, thought of you. Not that I think of you as a dromedary. Rather, your desert builds are your signature of late. Those NWM figures are stunning. I saw the ones that Bob got when I was visiting several weeks ago. I am anxiously awaiting to see what you are going to do with them.

Cheers

Dave

Looking forward to seeing this one come to life Ed. We’re going to have to start calling you Sheik Ed before this all said and done with as much time as you’ve spent on the desert themed projects. [B]

Alright, Disastermaster, you need to STOP! I about spewed my coffee all over the screen I laughed so hard when I saw that picture. Jeepers, give a guy fair warning next time![8-|]

Ed,

This looks to be another one of your stellar projects. I’ll definately watch it closely. Those figures you found are sweeeeeeeeeeeet… I’m not familiar with the brand. Do they have their own website or do you find them somewhere else.

By the way, I am about 90% positive that I remember seeing a set of Hornet or Warriors heads with turbans. I think I noticed them when I was looking at headsets on Squadron, so you might start there.

Can’t wait to see more.

Boyd

Good stuff!

Adam: Thanks Adam love that pic!

Rob: I am not sure yet Rob. I know I will be using oils for all flesh but there is a wonderful opporutity to use oils on the #4 figures coat that might be worth doing in oils. I am glad you are following along.

Dave: Yeah the camel is sweet and the NWM figures are just perfect!

Wbill: I love the desert call me anything but late for Dinner!! [:D]

DM: ROTFLDude this made me smile when I really needed one today so thank you my friend!

Boyd: Thanks fo rthe headsups Boyd I will keep an eye out for them!

Build Update: Assembly so far has been fairly straight forward but there are some fit issues and of course lots of mold seams to remove. Nothing too overwhelming. I was not impressed with either the kit .50 or the resin ones in the detail set so I dug through the spare parts bin and found a .50 off of a Cyber-Hibby M4A4 Sherman that I could not use for a Comonwealth Sherman since you guys removed them. I drilled out the cooling jacket air holes and spent about two hours buuilding it up and detailing it but the effort was worth it. Here are some progress shots as I type.

That .50 Cal looks pretty nice. So far everything seems to be coming together rather nice.

Brian

That .50 looks MEAN, Ed, Ma Deuce riding shotgun!!!

Sorry I missed you this week, but I did get some bench time in!

Talk to you tomorrow!

Bill

Brian: Thanks for riding along Brian!

Bill: Thanks man and I just saw your post I am glad you were able to c arve out some build time this weekend.

Build Update: I was able to get the Legend Resin Twin Ks assembled and I am not sure about the look so I would like to ask you gentleman your opions. If I keep this weapon load out it will look like this.

I am partial to the NWM box art with just the 50. I have a temp mount made up to see if I like it and now I am torn.
