tamiya and mr hobby paints mixable?

sorry for such a retarded question but I have never used mr hobby paints before and need to know if they can be mixed. thanks

Crash

I use both Tamiya & Gunze acrylics together without issue.

Tamiya thinners works fine with both.

I do find the Gunze paints finer, however they take longer to dry fully.

Karl

thanks for the input, I am going to go out on a limb and guess they should not be combined for color alteration?

also is gunze the company that makes mr hobby? the pain jars are all in japanese save for the color and brand name

Yes, Gunze is the company that makes the Mr hobby products.

On another note, I have read on other websites that guys are thinning Tamiya acrylics with laquer thinner with excellent results. Have any of you tried this with success?

I mix them without issue.

Karl

well I went to spray some paint and to my horror the mix gummed up my airbrush something fierce… I mixed tamiya acryl with mr. hobby paint… then added tamiya thinner. after adding some more thinner to the mix and cleaning my AB the paint began to spiderweb all over the test piece. do I need more thinner or should I start from scratch?

Are you using the “Aqueous Hobby Color” paints (similar jar to Tamiya, Paint numbers have a “H-” prefix) or the “Mr Color” paints (lacquer based, jar has a lid which narrows to a paddle-like shape at the top, paint colours have no prefix, just a number)?

The aqueous colours should be compatible with Tamoya acrylics - the “Mr Color” lacquer based paints won’t mix - it sounds like the latter. If this is the case, you will need to run some lacquer thinner through your airbrush and perhaps strip it down to clean it up.

damn… yeah it was the paddle handle lid Mr. Hobby… time to go get new paint to mix. [censored]

hmmm the mix brushes on well but obviously wont spray… weird. lol
